Gimmie Shelter - SCR Horses

Donation protected

Second Chance Ranch is a 501c3 non profit  thoroughbred racehorse rehabilitation and re-homing organization that offers equine-assisted mental health and social rehabilitation for Veterans, PTSD survivors, and certain children’s disabilities.

After experiencing a devastating flood on the last property in western Washington, we recently moved our 40 retired thoroughbred racehorses to Thorp in eastern Washington. The climate of dry, cold weather is very good for the horses, however, we have not had time or resources to build appropriate shelter for winter.

Eastern Washington has high winds, snow, and below freezing temperatures.  It is critical that we provide shelter for the horses and their food to stay dry.

Our URGENT and immediate need is to purchase 10 run-in shelters carried at Home Depot or The Tractor Supply Company. These are carport like shelters that can withstand the snow load and high winds. The cost is approximately $400 each.

Anything over and above the cost of shelters will be used to purchase waterproof blankets, and posts for wind blocks (we have the wall lumber).

These magnificent thoroughbreds have demonstrated their mutli-faceted talents. Not only are they natural athletes, they also have tremendous healing effects on humans value as an instrument for teaching and learning.

Please let Christmas come early for these wonderful animals.   It has taken significant time, money and effort to get them healthy and safe. We need your help to provide the environment and care they deserve through the winter.
