Shellie Snow Leukemia Treatment

Donation protected
This last month has left our family devastated as our mother (Shellie Snow) was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.

Backstory -
After a three month battle this summer with a critical infection in her leg, Shellie ended up in the Arizona Burn Center for treatment. Upon receiving lab results taken during her stay they found that her white blood count was abnormally high. During this stay they recommended more tests to be done and they came back with the results that Shellie had Leukemia.

Within a few weeks she was already seeing a wonderful Oncologist and an Internal Medicine Specialist, both of whom know very well her current health issues and struggles regarding her burns. They have both been incredible and such a support to our family during these beginning stages of treatment.

Diagnosis -
Chronic Myeloid Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and is chronic meaning non curable. She is fortunate to be able to take chemo every day in a pill form without having to go in for radiation treatment and they feel hopeful that they will be able to keep this cancer at bay and prolong her life. She began chemo earlier this month and will continue on chemo and supplemental medications, as well as seeing an oncologist, for the rest of her life.

With Shellie’s previous health and ineffective immune system and circulatory system, she is at a higher risk of getting sick or getting further infections in her legs and elsewhere already, which is worsened with now having Leukemia. This is one of the bigger concerns regarding her previous health issues stemming from their Plane Crash. We are working with her internal medicine specialist to make sure her body is responding to the chemo as well as the other medications she is on. Due to the chemo she has been advised to take her health very seriously and stay away from ANY and ALL sickness.

Anyone who is blessed to know Shellie knows that she has not had things easy in this life, but as you can see from the photo below she has come a long way. She continually lives her life with the best outlook and with the kindest heart imaginable. She has a deep love for her Savior Jesus Christ and a remarkable understanding of the trials we endure in this life with all their purposes. She is an example to us all and a wonderful light.

What can we do?
As her children, we want to help relieve some of the financial pressures her and Dad (Steven) have been dealing with since this diagnosis. The costs have been difficult and are mounting up as more and more tests and treatment are required. With no insurance available that is affordable to them because of her injuries sustained in the plane crash they are currently paying out of pocket for all doctors appointments, tests, medications, and chemo. Because of the high costs and out of pocket payment they are holding back on highly necessary testing and treatment because they cannot afford it. Two biopsies, a blood transfusion, and a procedure are needed ASAP and these are our first concerns before daily medications and future treatment.

We are so grateful to all of our family and friends near and far who have shown support, love, and concern for her at this time. We are so grateful for her and the wonderful person and example she is. We are so grateful for anyone who feels they are able to donate to help in easing some of this pressure placed upon them. We are most especially so grateful for our loving Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ, for whom without, this would be too much to deal with after all they have both been through already in their lives. We have felt everyone’s prayers and love. Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
