Shay's Financial Assistance

Dear Friends and Family,

Please let me introduce you to my beautiful niece, Leslie Shay Petrich-Roberson. The most precious gift I ever received because she decided to try and enter this world on my birthday, which is two months prior to her supposingly due date. In other words, she was born prematurely on July 8, 1982 rather than sometime in September.

I will never forget that day because we were all very excited to welcome Shay however,  the doctors wanted to stop the birth. Shay had her own plans and they delivered her the next day. Unfortunately and unprepared, the nurses had to carry her quite a distance to the premature baby ward for “oxygen” that day. This caused her irreversible damage.

Shay only weighed 2 pounds and was not breathing!

She remained there at the ward until she gained 2 more pounds.

Shay is an amazing young lady no matter what the challenge is, she has always faced it with a positive attitude.  Due to lack of oxygen at birth, she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. This disease has created so many challenges over the years for Shay from seizure  attacks and severe asthma to not being able to walk entirely. Through it all Shay has always had an encouraging attitude and a beautiful smile.

She worked very hard in highschool and with a little help from her Auntie and lots of constant support from her mother,    Shay finally graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Communications.

After graduation, Shay landed an internship with the radio station at the university.  Sadly, the internship had to come to an end because Shay did not have the luxury of commuting between Livermore and San Jose (She could not drive like all of us and had to depend on BART, which posted a tremendous challenge for a disabled person).

My sister TERI, Shay's mother, has dedicated her life to taking care of her everyday. She has always put Shay's needs above everything including her job choices. This has produced endless monetary struggles for them over the years,   yet they have survived.

Shay continues to face different health issues including heart problems and a new lump found in her breast just recently. This brings some new medical and financial challenges for Shay and Teri once again this holiday seasons.

My sister is a very proud woman and has always believed the Lord will provide for them and would never ask for help even at this very difficult stage of life.

However, it is really time for all of us to extend our helping hands. I am therefore starting this FUND to help them get through this difficult time. Please extend your generosity and contributions.

We truly appreciate  all you can do for Shay and Teri.

Regards,
Auntie Corinne
