The Academy @ Shawnee Middle School is an Engineering Magnet school, located in the West End of Louisville. We are a proud STEAM school that works hard to ensure our students have authentic learning experiences every day.
Each year, our 8th graders have an opportunity to travel to Washington D.C.! Students will visit important landmarks, monuments, and museums to deepen their learning about our nation's capitol, and bring to life what they've only read or seen in pictures!
Our hope is that every student can attend this trip, but unfortunately, this is not the case. The cost of the trip is $615 per student, and for most, this is a hefty cost. With a student population of nearly 100% free or reduced lunch, our students would love to engage in such opportunities, but lack economic resources.
In order to open the door for this opportunity, we have created a scholarship program. Small donations from teachers, people in our community, and local businesses have helped fund a couple of scholarships, but we need more to fund additional students. With your help, we can make our students' 8th grade year a memorable one!
