In remembrance of the 2017 Las Vegas Shooting, our mission is quite simple: To advocate for universal background checks and the banning of bump stocks. We aim to draw NRA politicians out of the dark and to present the ultimatum to refuse NRA money and commit towards the removal of lethal legislation, or expect to be voted out of office on November 6.

What we want to see implemented:
     - Universal background checks
     - The banning of bump stocks nationwide
     - The banning of large/high capacity magazines
     - Closing the "ghost gun" loophole
     - Closing the 3D-printed gun loophole
     - Closing the gun show loophole

What we hope to achieve before November 6:
     - Educating Americans on the issue of gun violence and their politicians' stances on the crisis
     - Calling out politicians on false campaign promises and for putting their own interests over that of their constituents
     - Have politicians refuse money from the NRA-ILA
     - Get Americans to show up and vote during this upcoming election (increase voter turnout) - Give a platform for those affected by gun violence to have their voices heard
     - Give a platform to gun owners who share the views stated above a chance to share their perspectives.
     - Vote out politicians that take money from the NRA, exploit our events for their own agenda but do not take action, or fail to keep their campaign promises.

September 30th: Shattering the Silence begins by holding rallies and demonstrations at iconic political locations. Most will consist of a die-in and rally, before a march. Main marches and multiple sister marches will have dedicated guest speakers from the Shattering the Silence committee as well as Black Lives Matter.
          - Main marches will take place in Washington D.C., Las Vegas, and NYC.
-Sister marches will take at as many places as possible, including Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Georgia, and California.
37 Days Campaign: We will then continue to hold various events leading up to the election which will aim to encourage people to vote and hold legislators who have sold out to the NRA accountable.
-Every day we will focus on a different statistic related to the issue and hold various events to register voters and to encourage people to vote.
-We will also be holding events to educate Americans on candidates and how to be more informed using online non-partisan resources.
-A series of events over the course of these 4 weeks involving die-ins, silent protests, and rallies. These will be staggered and not at once but rather focused in communities where gun control is more prevalent or underrepresented.

November 6th: Shattering The Silence has partnered with The Future Coalition for #WalkoutToVote, a nationwide event in nearly all 50 states with over 500 events already registered, in which millions of students will leave school to support their peers as they go to the polling place. This is to ensure that our message has been heard by both voters and politicians all while reminding voters of the suffering of millions of Americans due to gun violence.

After November 6: We will be launching a long-term youth mentorship program with dozens of social justice groups across the nation to help give the next generation of Americans the resources and information needed to continue to demand change and take action.

Hey, everyone! I just want to start this by saying thank you. The past few months have been an incredible time for youth. On November 6, young voter turnout was the highest it has been in over 25 years. Together, we voted more than 30 NRA-backed politicians out of office replacing them with the highest number of women elected to congress in U.S. history. From October 1 to November 6, Shattering The Silence held a 37-day campaign focused on educating voters, registering young voters, and keeping the movement in the forefront of everyone’s minds as they go to the polls. From voter registration drives to phone banks we made sure that everyone was ready to vote for change. As I am sure many of you are wondering, what happened on September 30th? From September 30th to October 1st, rallies and marches were held in 11 cities. From Palo Alto, California to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. we honored those impacted by the Las Vegas massacre demanding change on the one-year anniversary of the largest mass shooting in United States’ history. This is was just the beginning. Starting in 2019, Shattering The Silence will be launching a long-term initiative to prepare the next generation to advocate for change in their own communities. Shattering The Silence’s Mentorship Program (age 6+) aims to give youth the skills they need to make their voices heard. Our initial pilot program is launching in New York City in January (enrollment beginning mid-December) in partnership with LIFE Camp Inc, Save Our Streets Bronx, Youth Over Guns, National Association of Students Against Gun Violence, Indivisible Students, and more. The future is what we make of it and together, we can change the world for the better. Below you will find links to highlights of the various press coverage we have been mentioned in. I am so grateful for your support and trust in all the young Americans out there trying to make a difference. We would never be able to do this without you.
