It was a cough at christmas...
What we hoped an x-ray would show was something like bronchitis turned out to be a cancerous mass on the lung. We did not get full scans until late January, upon which our Mom had been diagnosed with Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma (Lung Cancer). A hard diagnosis to understand being that she is a non-smoker.
Mom started Chemotherapy towards the end of February with high hopes and positivity despite a number of tumors continuing to amass around her body. Throughout this time she was positive to beat it. We went for the second round of Chemo about St. Patricks Day. Just a few days later she wound up in the hospital.
Since that time and given other opinions, we were told that we would have only 2-3 months left with our Wife, Mother, and Best Friend.
As much as we hate to admit it, her health continues to decline and we worry that we may have less time than expected, and we have had to acknowledge that.
Mom has always put others before herself her whole life. She is an exceptional person. I may be biased as a daughter but I truly think that there are many others out there who have seen what I have seen. I, along with my sisters and Dad have just had the most amazing privilege to be a closer part of it.
It is time that Mom does not have to worry any longer about the things that she has worried about for so long. Instead of taking care of us it is time we take care of her.
The $5,000 dollar goal will go towards the cost of rent for my parents, the medical bills accrued as well as burial and funeral costs. In my eyes though, this $5,000 goes to the hopes that she no longer has to worry about anything, that it's not even a thought, and that she feels the love that she has given so much of.
