“Little Liam Lion Lamb” was the nickname given to this precious little boy by his parents, Michael and Ann Lamb, when he was born.  He is a gift from God and has proven to be the most resilient 3 year old who will not be held down, counted out, or beaten by anything; even renal failure!
31554840_1532621322566932_r.jpegLiam’s heartbreaking story began on May 31st around 1:00 am by expressing to his mom that he didn’t feel well.  Liam was admitted to OCH on June 3, 2018 at midnight. At this point, no one could have imaged the painful path this family would face ahead.  By 8:00 am, they were told his bloodwork tested positive for E-coli and also showed a skyrocketing white cell count.  He was immediately taken by ambulance to Blair E Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, MS where he was admitted into the Pediatric ICU.  He then developed Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) which caused him to go from having zero urine output to complete renal failure.  They were now aware the skyrocketing white cell numbers reported earlier were reflecting kidney failure.

He began receiving dialysis 3 times a week.  Liam then suffered a perforation of his bowel due to necrosis (caused by the deterioration of his intestinal lining). He underwent emergency surgery on June 21, 2018 where doctors removed 4 inches of his colon. He is now required to have a colostomy bag.  His body had built up so much fluid in the free spaces that dialysis was not enough to remove the large amount.  In order to help remove the built up fluid, a chest and abdomen drainage tube was placed which removed 500+ milliliters of fluid.  A blood clot was discovered in his heart sac.  He began a blood thinning therapy but after 4 days, he began to bleed internally. The blood thinning therapy was stopped and so did the internal bleeding.  He was finally stable enough to leave the Pediatric ICU on July 23, 2018.  He is currently being treated at Blair E Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, MS where a team of doctors are monitoring him closely for any changes.

It has been a long and hard experience for Liam and his family but their painful journey is not yet over.  A GoFundMe account has been created for Liam to not only help with the medical expenses but to also show love and support for him and his family during this stressful time.  It is amazing how God has allowed Liam to shine and overcome all of these obstacles so far.  We strongly believe that Liam will be healed through the power of prayer by family and friends.  Please continue to pray for a complete healing for Liam and for comfort and strength for his family.  He is definitely now known to everyone as “Liam the Lion”.

More great news from Ann today!!!!

This is an update I prayed everyday to write! LIAM IS BEING DISCHARGED!
I dont yet know if its tomorrow, Sat. Or Sunday but all the wheels are in motion. I have meet and talked with social workers, hospital provided preschool teacher, gotten our feeding pump from our med supplier, spoken with nutrition, gotten OT and PT slots for out patient, and spoken to all but 2 of Liam's 8(ish) team of Drs.!
And most of that was today!
IR came and removed the abdomen drain as well, and we will have his PIC line pulled before we go too! He will only go home with the colostomy and feeding tube. As he eats better (begging to take some bites ) we will decrease it and remove it but thats all dependant on Liam.
I am scared and nervous but so elated! We will be staying close by the Hospital at my mother and father in laws for a few months as we adjust to the routine of dialysis, PT and OT, 3 times a week. From there we will decide when to come back home to Starkville.
I can not say enough thank yous for all of the prayers, support, blood donations, and financial help everyone has given! We are truly blessed, and we humbly and whole heartedly thank you!
We have many, many more days of healing and adjustment and surgeries and dr.s appointments ahead but we will face them knowing God has our hand and he will guide us!

This was shared with me from Liam's mom this afternoon. The news was just too good not to share with everyone!!! Please read to see how our prayers are being heard and answered!

This update is a testament to God's love and healing; in the body, heart, and mind!

Liam has shown much improvement. He has had more energy in the past 3 to 4 days! He joked, laughed and played with Michael and I this past weekend with the spirit he used to exude before becoming so ill!

Friday, we found out that Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital offers teacher assistance to preschooler's to help keep their education and development on track. Today is his first day where we get an hour with his teacher in the playroom on our floor! (As I type this he is matching colors with her and teaching her the sea creatures lol) This is giving him and I much more than I can say in words.

I have meet with a social worker because the word "home" was loosely used yesterday. They want me to have time to set up ostomy care and feeding care instructions for when we are home. We will do a CT on Wednesday, before dialysis, to see how the abscess drain is doing and to determine if it can come out. He ate a few bites of a bagel this morning! Yeah, I saved that for last! He has tolerated it so far and prayers he continues to show interest! Thank you all for the many prayers as he continues to blossom back to the little boy we all remember!
