Hello, my name is Monica Flaska and I’ve been friends of the Kilmer family for nearly 30 years. I’ve started this Go Fund Me account for Shannon and Sharon (Bresnahan) Kilmer due to the fact, Shannon was tragically diagnosed with A.L.S. in June 2018.
This devastating news has been difficult for him, Sharon and their two daughters, Keelin and Avery. Please, they need your help! Shannon’s physical decline is rapidly progressing and their need for a handicap van is imminent. A handicap van can cost at least $50,000 (for a used van). This also does not include other financial responsibilities required to support the family allowing them to be able to afford services, equipment and support needed throughout this everchanging condition.
To help familiarize you with this illness, let me share a short description. ALS is a disease of the motor neurons. It’s a progressive, neurological disease which leads to muscle weakness, atrophy and aggressive changes throughout the entire body, including the ability to breathe. ALS is a terminal disease with the average life span being 2 to 5 years, once symptoms first appear. In October of 2016, Shannon first noticed fatigue and weakness in his neck and arms which soon resulted in a loss of strength and muscle mass. A whirlwind of dr.’s appointments ensued from orthopedic specialist, neurologist, a Lyme/infectious disease dr. just to name a few.
As you consider donating to the Kilmer family, please share this Go Fund Me page with as many people as possible. No amount is too small! This financial goal has not only been set to cover the thousands of dollars of healthcare costs but ultimately to ensure Shannon is as comfortable as possible when he enters the latter stages of ALS.
