Some quick background: Annette Roberts, aka Cherri Bombshell, was a skater on our roller derby team, The Coal Miner's Daughters in Gillette, Wyoming. At our most recent awards ceremony, Annette was given the Phoenix Award because she has risen from the ashes, again and again. Annette never stays down for long! She was forced to retire from derby recently, due to medical issues. Please read her family's story so we can help Annette rise again as the Mighty Phoenix we all know that she is!
After struggling with major medical issues for the past 9 months, Annette was diagnosed with colon cancer on April 15th. She is only 33 years old. Annette is the mother of 3 amazing children: Kyler age 16, Zac age 15, and Gabby age 11. On April 16th, her son Zac was overwhelmed by the bullying he received on a daily basis and by his mother's illness. He attempted to take his own life. He is still in the hospital, trying to recover from the devastating injuries of a gunshot wound. He has undergone 2 surgeries at this point and we are crossing our fingers that he won't need anymore. Annette must travel to a specialist in Utah for her cancer surgery, which has been temporarily suspended until Zac is well enough to be released from the hospital. Annette is the type of person to always help anyone in need and put herself second. I am asking for your help to lessen the ever-increasing financial burden on this family, which will allow them to concentrate on the most important thing right now: getting themselves healthy! This family has always been first to help those in need. This is our chance to help them by funding this medical assistance account.
