My name is Blake McKinney. I grew up in North Carolina, joined the Army as an infantryman at 19, and was stationed in Hawaii until I deployed with the 25th Infantry Division, 2nd Brigade Combat team, 1-14 Infantry Regiment to Iraq from December 7th, 2007 to February 17, 2009.
Upon my release, I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as other medical issues through the VA. I am currently rated at 80% disabled, but receive benefits as 100% due to unemployability because of the PTSD. I struggle with PTSD daily and am looking for a service dog who can help bring me back to reality and help me face the challenges I deal with daily including fear, anxiety and insomnia. I struggle to go out in public and really function well in society without flashbacks and other disturbances.
I have a wife, 9-year old son, a six year old stepson, and a newborn daughter and i would like to be able to participate in family activities without the paranoia and fear being at the forefront of my mind. I believe this can be achieved by having a service dog that can provide stability and comfort to me.
Unfortunately the VA is backlogged for years on service dog provisions and there is no guarantee they will provide Veterans with a service dog. I have recently partnered with a company that has been providing and training service dogs for over 25 years a veteran owned GatorlandK9 International . Their owner Ted Hoppe a Navy Veteran has been providing service dogs to Veterans for years and I am fortunate to of found a reputable company. I am in good hands.
Please make a donation to my funding. This campaign will cover all of my costs including the german shepherd dog I desire, service dog training, handler training and the travel necessary for my on site handler training.
