Sensory playground for BraveHearts

My first fundraiser for the BraveHearts Program was to complete a half-marathon (21km) at Angkor Wat, Siem Reap on Sunday 4th December 2016. I'm happy to share that I achieved this goal, as well as reaching my first fundraising milestone of 500GBP (I actually raised 663GBP/814USD) thanks to such generous supporters!

My second milestone is much more ambitious … to try to raise an additional 7860GBP (9656USD) to add to the amount raised in December, to fully fund the building of a structure which will house the new outdoor sensory play area for the BraveHearts Program .

Since my first fundraiser at the end of 2016, we (BraveHearts volunteers) have been collaborating with the Building Trust International team here in Cambodia who have designed the structure that will cover the sensory play area. The have created a stunning lotus flower shaped structure that will enable the children to spend much more time outdoors stimulating their senses.

We have also teamed up with Lily Cox, from iCAN British International School (who is an experienced outdoor play practitioner, volunteering weekly with the BraveHearts Program) to trial and gather the most suitable sensory activities for the infants and children to be included in the play area.

All the resources for building the structure and creating the sensory activities are being locally sourced here in Cambodia, to ensure this project will be totally sustainable in the years to come.

The creation of this ambitious sensory play area for the BraveHearts Program is going to be a real team effort.

The team at Building Trust International have donated their designs and ongoing support, Lily and the iCAN school community are actively fundraising for this project to create the sensory activities and I have spent the past 3 months training for my next half marathon in Sihanoukville, Cambodia on 5th March 2017, as well as an upcoming triathlon in Bangkok on 23rd April 2017. Together we are hoping to raise the funds to enable the structure to be built at the beginning of May 2017, before the rainy season arrives in Cambodia.

BraveHearts needs help from generous people like you to continue to support the many disadvantaged infants and children with disabilities in the BraveHearts Program based in Cambodia.
