Hi everyone! My name is Elizabeth Diaz and my friend next to me is AJ Leiva. We are both seniors at Saint Edward's High School and both have a love for helping out our community. We got involved in Saint Francis Manor when we visited it for the first time for our school's community service day.
We are helping them raise the money needed to build two more housing facilities for low income seniors. Each building would have nine apartments, which would carve out slots for 36 new residents. Our average resident’s income is $980/month, which the government lists as poverty level. Our residents come from all walks of life, including teachers, servers, and lifeguards.
The Manor is always full with 100 residents. We have a waiting list of 33, so six to nine months wait. Those who are waiting are in substandard housing or are virtually homeless or living in their cars.
The Manor is a private, non-profit, 501(c)3, so your contributions to the Building Fund are 100% tax-deductible. We have a volunteer Board of Directors. We run in the black every year.
We have the land, we have a plan, now all we need is you! Elders are always overlooked when it comes to fundraising but we would like to change that. Just think: One of your loved ones might end up living in horrible conditions when they could be living in a beautiful place like this!
