Send Ukrainian journalist to USA
Jan. 13 update - Success!
Thanks to all for helping us reach our goal in record time! We're humbled by the generosity. We will keep the campaign open for 30 days and send all money to the Alfred Friendly Press Partners program. A direct donation to the worthy program is also a good option.
Here is the campaign:
For the third year, I, Brian Bonner, as Kyiv Post chief editor, http://www.kyivpost.com am raising money to help a Ukrainian journalist on the newspaper's staff to participate in a six-month fellowship with the Alfred Friendly Press Partners program. http://presspartners.org
Kyiv Post staff writer Anna Yakutenko is the lucky winner this year. She will spend six months learning at the University of Missouri School of Journalism and working at an American newspaper.
The total cost is $25,000. But we are tremendously fortunate that Ukrainian entrepreneur and philanthropist Vasyl Khmelnytsky's K. Fund donated $10,000 to our cause this year. http://kfund.ua/en/vasyl-khmelnytsky
Now we just need to raise another $5,000 -- ideally another $15,000 -- for Anna. We will keep the campaign going for 30 days and send all money raised to the program. Verification of donations and transfer of the money will be provided. GoFundMe requires an American bank account, so that's why I am managing the campaign.
100 percent of the money donated will go to cover the program's costs. We will pay the estimated 7.5 percent in bank and GoFundMe fees.
We realize there are many charities and needy people in this world. This cause -- supporting the education of Ukrainian journalists abroad -- just happens to be very important to us. So if you can help, we'd appreciate it.
This is the Kyiv Post's 5th Alfred Friendly Press Partnership fellow and the program has covered most costs in the past. Now, however, they are rightly asking us to contribute at least 60 percent. The fellows learn a great deal from the experience and share it widely among Ukrainian journalists upon their return.
All questions can be directed to me, Brian Bonner, or to David Reed of Alfred Friendly Press Partners.
$5,710 raised by 22 people! The campaign stays open until Feb. 12, when we transfer all the money donated to the Alfred Friendly Press Partners Program. Kyiv Post staff writer Anna Yakutenko starts her six-month fellowship in the USA in March.
21 people raised $5,660 in 1 day for the Alfred Friendly Press Partners Program. We thank everyone so much for ensuring that Anna Yakutenko, a Ukrainian journalist on the Kyiv Post staff, gets her six-month fellowship starting in March. We'll keep the campaign open until Feb. 12 and donate all money raised to the program.
We reached our $5,000 goal in record time. We will keep the campaign alive for 30 days and transfer any extra money donated to the Alfred Friendly Press Partners program. A direct donation to the program is also a good option. Thanks to everyone for supporting Ukrainian journalism!
