We're very excited to announce that the FLL robotics team, the JP2 Rockslides, have received an amazing, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime, opportunity to go to the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, MO on April 26-29, 2017! The FIRST World Championship has been described as "The Olympics of FIRST" and it truly is, with 108 teams competing from all over the world.
The team has worked very hard this year, and over the last 4 years, to make it this far and now we need your help financially to make it to St Louis!
Minnesota has the most FLL robotics teams of any region in the world with 633. That is very tough competition, which should help the JP2 Rockslides to be prepared for the World Championship event.
This year alone, the Rockslides have won many awards:
1st Place Core Values (x2)
1st place Robot Game
1st Place Head-to-Head Robot Game (x2)
4th Place Head-to-Heads at the State Tournament
1st Place in Robot Design
1st Place in Project Research
1st Place in Innovative Solution
Top 3 Championship Advancement (out of 633 teams!)
This dedicated group of 7 homeschooled kids, ages 9-15, has spent countless hours over the last 9 months advancing all aspects of their team, even if that meant they had less time for other activities. They have redesigned and rebuilt their robot 3 times, spent many days and nights (and weekends) programming, did countless hours of research, re-wrote their skit twice (along with plenty of tweaks) to make it sure it was easy to understand, reached out to numerous groups to share their real-world solution and improved their solution twice to make it even easier and better.
And they have done many things to reach out to their community as well. They have volunteered at STEM Day at the MN State Fair as well as at 2 FLL tournaments, co-hosted a mock-tournament, mentored new and experienced teams, held an FLL Show-N-Tell Day, helped start new teams, and even wrote and illustrated a book on teamwork that has been published!
Their hard work has truly paid off. Will you help them go on to succeed at the World Festival on April 26-29th? They need the funds right away, as most of the fees/supplies have to be paid for before the tournament.
Please donate! These funds will be used for
o World Festival Registration ($1000 alone!)
o Required set-up and supplies for World Festival teams
o Travel costs and hotel stay for the 4 families
o Any additional funds will continue to help save the bees (part of their research project this year)
