Send Mary Austin to Acting School!

Help send a young Cape Bretoner to Hollywood!

Mary Austin has been accepted into the prestigious American Academy of Performing Arts - the only Canadian to be accepted this year - and she needs our help to get there. 

This young woman is a force of nature. Not only is she a talented actor and musician, she's a gifted athlete,  a hard worker, and a community volunteer with a desire to contribute.

Our investment in Mary's future is also an investment in Cape Breton! This young woman's dream is to bring her skills and passion back to the island to help enrich the lives of its people.

Here are a few of the ways Mary has already contributed to the community.  

*  She held a Drama Camp for kids at the Victoria Highlands Civic Centre, and donated half of the proceeds to the rink.

* She directed and acted in "Scrooge's Christmas," and has acted in several "Living Mannequins" shows - all fundraisers for the Baddeck Library.

* She was the only local cast member of "The Young Ladies of Baddeck Club," a professional summer theatre production in Baddeck.

* She volunteers frequently to sing for residents at Alderwood Seniors Home and McLeod House.

* She performs regularly at local venues, and is always generous about performing for community events, weddings, funerals, and fundraisers.

* She helped bring the provincial ringette team to Cape Breton for an exhibition game and "come-try-it" session, to give island kids a chance to learn about the sport.

* She volunteers at the Victoria Highlands Civic Centre (painting and working the bar), and has volunteered for a tournament at the Bell Bay Golf Course.

* She has volunteered in learn to skate programs.

* She helped dozens of seniors learn about computers and other technology, offering one-on-one sessions in her role as Tech Intern at Baddeck Library.

On top of her many volunteer efforts, Mary has been working multiple jobs to save up for her tuition.  Let's help give her a well-deserved boost!
