Send LGHS Robotics to Worlds!

Tax deductible
The LGHS Robotics Team 972 is heading to the World Championships in April!

The Problem: getting 30 members to Houston is expensive.

Team 972’s Win at the SF Regional

On March 18th, the Los Gatos High School Robotics Team won the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) event in San Francisco. We were picked by Team 971: Spartan Robotics and Team 973: the Greybots to join their alliance for the eliminations rounds, where we went undefeated. We are proud that we have grown and improved enough in the three years to win a regional against world-class teams. Watch the match that won us the competition HERE.

Our win is also special because an alliance of three consecutive team numbers–971, 972 and 973–winning a competition has only ever happened once before in FRC (in 2005).

Building Robots, Building Engineers

Team 972 was restarted in 2016 by a small group of determined LGHS students after an eight-year hiatus of the FRC program. Early on, our team established a student-led culture that translates to students designing and building all robots, training new members, and coordinating outreach ventures. Each year we design and build an entire 120-pound robot from scratch in just six weeks and then compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition in the spring.

Despite concerns about how we would fare after our ten founding members graduated last year, our improved organization and training this year prepared our team for the creation of our most competitive robot yet. For the arcade-themed 2018 FIRST Power Up game, we designed a versatile robot featuring an intake with compliant wheels to grab onto “power cubes” and a cascading elevator to lift the cubes up to about 7 feet.

Why We Need Your Help

While many high-budget competitors use this precious time before World Championships to focus on technical refinements, our young third-year team must also focus on fundraising enough to even get our robot and members to Houston.

We want as many members as possible to engage in this unforgettable opportunity. The FRC Championships is not only a place to demonstrate our robot’s abilities, but also an opportunity to elevatethe LGHS Robotics program to new heights for years to come.
