Send L'Anse Robotics Team to States

Donation protected
Hello and thank you for visiting our link,

L'Anse Area Schools started up a robotics team this year.  We expected it to be fully funded by grant money for the first, and part of the second, year.  No one ever expected our team to perform so highly during our "rookie" season, but we worked hard to exceed expectations.  Our team, Aluminum Sting ~ 6558, competed in Escanaba, ranking 16th in the qualifying rounds, and won the judges hearts.  We earned the Rookie All Star Award at the competition and an invitation to compete for the state-level award in Saginaw. We continued on to compete in Sault Ste Marie, placing 5th overall during the qualifying matches.  We received two more awards- the Rookie Inspiration Award and the Highest Rookie Seed Award.  We also earned enough points to be invited to the state competition in Saginaw to compete with our robot.

This is where we ran into a problem.  The grants that were awarded do not account for a rookie team to compete at states and the robotics program is very expensive.  We are hoping to raise enough money to compete at the state level, but without funds before-hand doing so may leave us in a tough situation for the future.  Another issue is the timeline.  We are hoping to travel downstate on Wednesday, April 12th, which makes fund-raising tough with such short notice.

We are setting up this gofundme account and asking for your help to get us to the state competition. Our students, coach, and mentors have worked extremely hard for this opportunity and would be forever grateful for any donation that you are willing to give.  If you would like to donate, you can do so on here or by a check made out to "L'Anse Area Schools" with a memo: Robotics. (201 North 4th Street, L'Anse, MI 49946)

If you would like to know more about the program, you can visit firstinspires.org or visit our facebook page, L'Anse Robotics , to see updates on the our activities and our journey.
We are also hosting an open-house to "meet the teams;" Aluminum Sting (L'Anse) and The V-Bots (Baraga).  The open house is this Wednesday, April 5th, in the L'Anse Area Schools' Board Room at 6pm.  Come on out, see the bots, and hear what we have been doing and learned!

Some of the future plans of the team are to:
1. Bring the robot to the school library to excite kids about the robotics program and reading ("Robots in the Library").
2. Have a booth at the spring carnival at L'Anse Area Schools for the kids to see the robot and learn about how the fields of STEM helped the team to design and create it.
3. Start a class next year to build the program and to implement STEM into a futuristic curriculum.
4. Provide hands-on learning for students, in a growing field, outside of the classroom.
5. Have members apply for scholarships to assist in their future endeavors in STEM fields.
