Send Easton to Italy for CRPS treatment

Donation protected
Easton Mengel is a 9 year old boy from Moose Jaw, SK.

Like many boys his age Easton loves sports. Football was Easton’s passion and in Sept 2018 he was delighted when joined football for the first time. This joy would soon turn to a nightmare for the Mengel family. It was during a football game in October 2018 where Easton sustained an injury to his knee, a torn ACL. The problem is that Easton’s injury was over looked by the medical professionals he had presented to and was not diagnosed or treated in a timely fashion. After 5 months from his initial injury, Easton finally was able to see a Physiotherapist.

Once Physiotherapy was introduced to Easton, he started experiencing debilitating pain. Not just pain at the injury site but debilitating pain throughout his entire body.  It would be later diagnosed that this pain he was experiencing was from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). CRPS is thought to be caused by abnormalities in the central nervous system typically as a result of a trauma or injury. Ultimately the body sends abnormal pain signals throughout the body although there is no insult to that particular area of the body. CRPS is said to be the most painful condition known to man with a McGill pain scale rating of 45/50 (more painful than childbirth or amputation).

Due to the pain Easton endures on a daily basis, he spends most of his day at home. He no longer is able to walk without the assistance of a wheel chair, he no longer is able to attend school, he no longer is able to play with his friends, he no longer is able to do the activities he once loved and enjoyed. His childhood is essentially being robbed from him.

Despite the medical care that has been provided here in Saskatchewan to the family, Eastons’ condition is not improving. CRPS is an uncommon syndrome and is not well understood by medical professionals so treatment options here are running out. Research for this condition does report that treatment is most effective when started early and can cause improvement an even remission. Because of this, Eastons’ family have done their research and found a treatment option for Easton at a center that better understand this condition and feels after reviewing his case file that they can help. This treatment center unfortunately is in Verona, Italy and comes at a hefty price tag.

The cost of the treatments alone is approximately 32,000.00. This would include the medication and therapy that Easton needs if he has a hope in recovery. His father Shawn would accompany Easton to Italy and stay with him for the duration of the time. We wish to raise 40,000.00 for the Mengel family. This money would go towards Eastons’ treatment, airfare and accommodations for Easton and Shawn. Anything left over would go toward loss wages while Shawn attends to his son in Italy.

PLEASE HELP GET THIS LITTLE BOY HIS LIFE BACK. No donation to big or to small. Thanks in advance for all of your support! Funds will be withdrawn and managed by Easton’s mother- Britten Hepting.
