Send Canada's Adaptive Waterski Team to Worlds

The first International Invitational Disabled Water Ski Tournament was held in Skarnes, Norway in 1986. This summer this same tournament will be coming full circle as the 2019 World Disabled Water Ski Championships take place from July 22nd - July 28th, 2019 in Skarnes, Norway.

Since the birth of this international tournament, Canada has never had a team finish greater than 4th place, which is just outside of medal contention.  Does Canada have what it takes to have a podium finish? You bet your A$$. Canada’s adaptive water ski team currently holds 2 world records and is hungry for a team podium finish. Over the past 2 years since the last world championships in Australia, Canadian Team Coaches Dave Wassill and Lisa Williams have been working alongside others to grow the adaptive water ski program Canada. This program provides those with physical disabilities the chance to try adaptive water skiing and it helps to foster and develop athletes that could accompany the team in Norway this summer. This program has proven to be quite successful as Team Canada heads to Norway with a record 10 athletes.

But, as wonderful as this opportunity would be for these deserving athletes, we unfortunately have a very limited budget from Waterski Wakeboard Canada. And, because our sport is not a Para-Olympic sport, we receive considerably less funding from our sport organization. Added to this challenge, many of our athletes simply cannot afford to pay for this out of pocket because of numerous expensive obstacles they face on a daily basis. However, challenges are certainly not new to us and we will not give up this easily!

In order to turn this dream into a reality, we need your help. We need to raise funds in order to assist our athletes with the many necessary expenses required to make this happen. As you might already know, Norway is one of the most beautiful places to visit, but it is also one of the most expensive! Travelling to Norway means not only a very costly plane ticket for each participant and member of our support team, it also requires accommodations, meals, vehicle rental, daily travel, and the list goes on and on.  Even at a minimum, the personal cost per athlete is over $3000.00, and most athletes need to travel with a companion whose costs are at least equal to that. This is truly an incredible undertaking, but with your support, we know it can be done!

Our enormous goal is to raise up to $30,000.00 to offset some of our 10 athletes’ personal costs. They have worked so very hard for this, and we certainly do not want to turn any single one of them away from such a world-class, once in a lifetime opportunity!  This is your way to give back and be involved so we can help make Canada proud! Together, we can make their Para-Olympic dreams a reality. Help us to cheer on our athletes and send them to Worlds! With your gold, you can help us bring home the gold.

Every dollar raised goes directly to the Canadian Adaptive Teams journey to Norway. Any dollar above and beyond the cost of the tournament goes back into the adaptive program to help get another disabled skier on the water.
