Hey some of y’all know me, but if you don’t, here’s a little bit of intel: I’m Camonghne Felix, a political strategist, cultural worker, speechwriter, and poet. I grew up in the Bronx, the poorest congressional district in the country, and from young I could see that my community wasn’t getting the resources or support it needed for us to thrive. Because of a crap ton of sociopolitical factors, I barely graduated from high school but poetry helped me discover my civic voice, my love for politics and my desire to do anything in my power to fight for the resources that my communities need.
Fast forward 15 years, I am getting ready to move to the Midwest to hop back into hard politics, and it will be life changing and difficult.
All I’ve ever wanted to be in life is an artist as well and a public servant and I am so honored that I get to continue doing this work. but I humbly admit that need your help to sustain it.
Why?
It’s a really difficult time politically, and there are so few women of color who are doing high-level political strategy and strategic communications work on behalf of our communities. Check out some of your favorite recent campaigns featuring black candidates, you’ll find that most of them have non-WOC in strategic leadership roles, and honestly, it reflects in the polls and in our ability to understand our people and the issues. As we gear up for 2020, it’s important that people like me fill these gaps and I’m leaving behind a good portion of my life to do it because I really believe that Black women are the solutions for our communities. I am building one of those solutions, and I need your help.
What are you funding?
Your contributions will be going towards a deposit for housing, the cost of a new computer, registering my business, securing a workspace, travel, and emergency funds. I pack up all of my belongings and leave the state the day after Christmas, and then I hit the ground running January 1st.
In return for your generous donation and love, I will give back the following:
-Donations over $100: a copy of my limited edition chapbook Yolk (25 books left! Ever!)
-Donations over $300: 15 minute brand/identity consultation
