Send Caitlin to Spain to Study
Donation protected
Hi everyone. I’m Caitlin.
I am a junior and National Honor Society student at Eastlake North High School in Northeast Ohio. This next year, I’ll be a year 4 Spanish language student. I love studying Spanish. Spain's culture, such as the food, activities, and general way of life is something that I'm very passionate about. I am also considering pursuing a career teaching English as a second language in Spain.
I have been presented with an amazing opportunity to study abroad in Spain for four weeks through CIEE, the country’s oldest and largest nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization.

Though it is a great opportunity, it is not a vacation. It’s a Spanish Language Intensive that I will be earning college credit for. Set in Alicante, Spain, this program offers a challenging alternative to only the most motivated Spanish learners such as myself. It’s open exclusively to students with two years of High School Spanish and above, and requires that participants speak Spanish at all times. It’s a full immersion experience.
I’ll spend four weeks improving my Spanish while studying the Spanish culture and country. I’ll build a lasting relationship with my local host family, while deepening my understanding of Spanish family structure.
I’ll have the opportunity to practice my Spanish vocabulary out in the community during time with the program leader, a U.S.-based Spanish teacher. At the end of the summer, I’ll leave Alicante with confidence in my ability to communicate proficiently in one of the world’s most widely spoken languages.
THE FINANCIAL COST
Unfortunately, the program does come with a significant price tag.
$25 Application – Due February 17th
$1000 Deposit on tuition – Due March 15th
$4700 Remainder of tuition – Due April 13th
$135 Passport – Due April 13th
$1100 Round-Trip Airline Ticket
$100 College Credit Fee
$ 500 Miscellaneous expenses
I've received a merit scholarship for $4700 which will cover most of the tuition, although there is still the $1000 deposit fee and travel expenses to pay for. And while my family will be covering a significant portion of the expenses, I will be working hard to earn whatever I can to put towards the trip. Still I will need some financial help.
To make my dream come true, I am reaching out to my family, friends, colleagues, and supporters to assist me in raising funds to cover the remainder of the program fees and expenses. Today I ask you to be my global champion and to invest in my future. My deposit of $1000 is due March 16th. A contribution of any amount would be greatly appreciated in meeting my financial goal for the course. For details on this course, please visit https://goo.gl/hvZ5LN .
I understand that not everyone is able to give. But if not, you can help by sharing this link with your family and friends.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I am a member of the National Honor Society and I carry a 4.16 GPA. While working hard to maintain my grades, I stay very active in several extracurricular activities.
✪ I’m a member of my school’s World Language Club, which helps me to appreciate other cultures and see the world from a better viewpoint.
✪ In 4-H I’ve learned to live out the four H’s by thinking through things, being compassionate, working hard, and being healthy while encouraging and caring for other people and animals.
✪ I’m involved in my church’s youth group once a week and I’ve volunteered with children at the church’s Sunday school.
✪ I’ve volunteered at our local YMCA’s child watch and in afterschool tutoring of other students.
✪ This past summer I attended a week-long Teen Leadership Camp where I learned how to interact well with a lot of different people, treat people with respect and take charge when needed.
✪ Most recently, I’ve applied to the Ranger Way mentorship program at my school where I will teach, mentor, and work with incoming freshman to handle the challenges of high school.
Throughout the year I participate in a total of five sports.
✪ I play clarinet in my high school marching band.
✪ I run cross country in the fall.
✪ I participate in track, running distance and pole vaulting.
✪ I am on the gymnastics team, practicing multiple times a week and have participated in four meets this year.
✪ I have been on a synchronized swim team for six years.
✪ I have been playing softball for the past five years.
In past years I’ve studied piano, played soccer, was on the city swim team, was involved with the American Heritage Girls and the Air Force Civil Air Patrol.
