Self-defense volunteering in SA
Donation protected
In May 2018, I will be traveling to Cape Town South Africa to work with local non-profits to teach youth and women self-defense.
I have been teaching women's and kid's self-defense for years after a career in MMA, and started my program Girls Who Fight this year to bring self-defense lessons to women in Toronto, however, I am aware that some parts of the world do not have access to such programs, and have serious problems with sexual harassement and assault.
After contacting various non-profit and community organizations, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver in depth self-defense programs based on MMA techniques to the local kids and women in South Africa.
WHO:
I will be working with The Girl Impact (www.thegirlimpact.org) who uses their six-pillar approach to help youth. These include education, health, safety, early pregnancy, income, and self-confidence. My seminars aim to improve the safety and self-confidence of the youth to help achieve their mission.
I will also be conducting workshops for a volunteer project called GVI (www.gvicanada.ca), where I will work to achieve the same goals.
I am still trying to connect to different programs in the area to access more opportunities to volunteer. With the two above I will be working with over 100 kids during a course of four weeks.
It is my passion to use the skills and knowledge I have developed over the last ten years in MMA to help other people, especially women and girls who are in need of such skills. I feel I am in a unique position to help those at a high risk of sexual assault, and that it is part of my purpose to do something meaningful for the world. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the kids and women in South Africa, and appreciate every bit of support!
FUNDS: the money recieved will go to covering costs like flight, accommodation, and the cost of traveling to different parts of the country to conduct workshops.
Deadline: I wil be leaving May 6th.
Thank you so much to those who support my mission, your help will let me impact hundreds of children who are in need of self-defense skills and have no current way to recieve it. It means the world that you have helped me do this <3
