Seavey Family Adoption

We have big news! We are adopting!

Six Years ago I felt a calling to open our home to children from hard places through an exciting organization called New Horizons for Children. They match children from orphanages with Christian families in order to expose them to the love of family and God. After much prayer, I planted the seed of this idea in my husband’s mind and very quickly it bloomed into an incredible and life-changing summer.  Next thing we knew we went from a family of 5 to a family of 7 with the arrival of R and J!

Immediately, they stole our hearts as they quickly grew from visitors to family.

From the beginning, we were told adoption was not an option. That didn’t change the fact that they became our family.  Every summer they would come. We would have the most incredible time together. Then we would have to say goodbye. Can you imagine having to say goodbye to your son or daughter every year with a twinge of fear that you may never see them come back again? It never felt like our family was whole when they were gone.

Fast forward to last year. J and R told us that they were ready to be here full time for school and we could not have been happier! J was able to get her visa relatively quickly, but we were told that R would very likely be denied for a variety of reasons.  But we prayed. Prayed again. Then prayed some more. The chance was so slim, but guess who came over with J? That’s right! God answered our prayers and our family was united again.

Having them here all the time has been incredible and we have begun to settle into the new norm- knowing that we will need to continually renew visas and enter the constant roller coaster of bureaucracy.

Until 4 weeks ago.

“R can be adopted.” Words we never thought we would hear.  “But it has to happen before his 16th birthday… next month.”

The flood of thoughts and emotions was overwhelming, but R set us right.

“R, the opportunity has come to adopt and you know how bad we want this to happen. But remember how there was a 5% chance of you getting your visa? Well, this is even harder.”

“Mom, everyone told me it was impossible to get here. It would never happen. But our God made that happen-  I know He can do this too.”

Our God made it happen and we know He can do this too.

We have been moving at a rapid pace to get everything done and He keeps showing up. Another bump in the road? He reveals himself.

If I even began to list the ways we have seen Him at work then I would hit my max word count.

So $30-40,000 for an adoption? Between a pastor’s salary and a teacher’s salary? He’s got this.

How can I get involved?

Adoption is an expensive process- we need your help!
Please consider donating to making this happen!

For every $20 donated we will put your name on a puzzle piece. That way we can forever remember the part you played in this incredible journey!
