Seven Bands! Seven Hours of Cajun/Zydeco dancing, food & Louisiana style celebration!

The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise funds to 1st - to bring a band up from Louisiana  & 2nd - Pay our 7 local bands a little more this year (if we don't make our required goal before September 29th).

More about the Louisiana band . Here is an opportunity to help bring to our 15th Annual NW Cajun-Zydeco Music & Dance Festival, LOUISIANATHON, a unique sound from Southern Louisiana.  It is embodied in a duo, a new band with old roots, “a new Cajun Creole project” by guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, Jean Bertrand (of The Pine Leaf Boys) and legend in his own time, rhythm player extraordinaire, Paul “Bird” Edwards.  Together they comprise an updated 99 Playboys.

Jean Bertrand, the longtime member of the four times Grammy nominated Pine Leaf Boys, is from Jeff Davis Parish where he was raised a prairie cowboy who completed U.L. Studies in French and, in addition to his deep Cajun heritage, has been influenced by many genres of music.  He taps into the  rich combination of these not only when playing songs, but when writing them.

Paul “Bird” Edwards, who began playing rhythms on a five gallon drum with pecan tree branches in his back yard as a kid, is a longtime resident of Eunice, LA.  He has played and recorded with more artists and  bands than he can remember, including Gene Delafose, Horace Trahan, Steve Riley, The Revelers and Feufollet.  At Swamp in the City, a Cajun Music and Dance Festival, in Brooklyn last May, Bird was noted as “an astonishing rhythm player” featured with several bands, including the debut of the 99 Playboys project with Jean Bertrand.  In Brooklyn, as well as at Balfa Camp and Black Pot Festival in Southern Louisiana, Bird's classes, “Rhythm With Bird” are acclaimed as, “Not to be missed!”

Of Bird, Jean says, “He plays natural LaLa – Creole, Zydeco, cowboy style, old dancehall style.”
Of Bird, he also says, “Down here he's known as “The Welcoming Committee”.  He made the connections for me when I was 23 to get my first touring job.  He's done that for so many of us.  It's Bird first who puts us on the fast track to music.  There's nobody else like him.  And now we're playing our music together.”

To experience firsthand one sample of the sound of this unique dynamic duo, go to SOUNDCLOUD.COM and pull up 99 Playboys, “China Ramble” (a Jean Bertrand original song.)
After you've listened to the old/new authentic Southern Louisiana music dimension they embody, please, generously donate whatever $$ you are able so we can bring them to Seattle and add their inspiring vibrancy to our 15th Annual LOUISIANATHON!

A Win/Win for live music: If we don't raise the required funds to bring the 99 Playboys to Seattle, all proceeds from this GoFundMe will be divided equally between our local Louisianathon band performers on November 4th.   Thank you for supporting live Cajun/Zydeco music in Seattle!
