Season 2: Education in Appalachia

$310 of $1,200 goal

This is a podcast about the importance of funding public education from the voices that aren't heard often enough- the teachers, students, and communities in Virginia's Appalachia.

In season one, you heard stories of hardship and perseverance from those directly impacted by the chronic underfunding of rural schools by state legislation. Those same stories are what inspired me to continue with another season. I want to dig deeper into the problems in southwestern Virginia school districts, including Giles County, and hopefully find solutions.

In order to bring you the best season possible, I'm humbly asking for support. Every dollar will go directly to this project. I'll be purchasing proper audio equipment, as I'll no longer have access to it upon graduation from VCU.  Such items include a professional recorder and two microphones to bring you higher quality recordings, and the Adobe Creative Suite subscription cost. I commuted a there-and-back total of 480 miles from Richmond to Giles County several times over the past four months, so a large portion of funds raised will cover those travel costs.

Last, and the most exciting part to me, is that I plan on turning this into a part-time venture. I hope to register as an LLC- which comes to an $100 cost. This goal also includes a financial estimation for overall production over the next several months upon moving to the Blacksburg area (30 minutes from Giles!).

As I mentioned in Episode 3, any amount will help continue this story.
I thank you so, so much for supporting me, and helping me give the attention that Appalachian schools deserve. I am truly moved by all of your kind words of encouragement and your generosity in being a part of bringing season two of Education in Appalachia to life.

Update: I will be purchasing an audio recorder and scoping out microphones next! We're still quite a bit away from the goal, but off to a fantastic start. These first donations will make all of the difference in terms of how my audio will sound to you (hello, professional!), and I can't thank you enough!
