Sean's Chemotherapy Treatment

Donation protected
On Saturday, October 10th, 2020, Sean Flaharty admitted himself into the Emergency Room at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for what he thought was a kidney stone. Sean had been experiencing nausea, vomiting, headaches, and abdominal pain in the days leading up to October 10th but was not concerned until an Emergency Room nurse told him that his white blood cell count was extremely elevated. Sean was transferred to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia on October 19th, 2020. Sean was released from Children’s Hospital on October 15th to his mother and sisters, who he lives with in Santa Clarita. He has to take Chemotherapy pills for the next three to five years and has many doctor’s visits ahead of him. Leukemia is a form of cancer that does not ever truly go into remission, so he would only be able to stop taking Chemotherapy pills until the cancer cells in his blood are at a substantially low percentage. Unfortunately, this diagnosis is one that Sean will have to live with and monitor for the rest of his life.

Sean Flaharty is a 19-year-old student currently attending College of the Canyons, with intentions to transfer to a university in the fall. Sean is a Saugus High School Alumni and was very involved during his time at Saugus as a varsity cross country runner, AP and Honors student, and Honors graduate in the class of 2019. He is a son to his loving mother and father, a brother to his twin brother and two older sisters, and a friend to anyone he meets. Sean’s mother, Ms. Catherine Flaharty, is currently battling Stage Four Metastatic Papillary Thyroid Cancer as well. To say that the Flaharty family has gone through quite a lot in the last few years would be an understatement.

Sean is a dear friend of mine and a friend to anyone he comes across. As a young man in 2020, being diagnosed with Leukemia and presented with such an extreme financial burden at the same time has been an unimaginable weight that has been placed on the shoulders of the Flaharty family. Thank you very much on behalf of the Flaharty family for any and all contributions.

My name is Tana Risley, a friend of Sean, and I am presenting this fundraiser on his behalf.

All contributions will go to Sean Flaharty.
