sea cucumber aquaculture for Solomon Islands

Donation protected
Hamley Anderson is one hard worker from the Solomon islands. His dream is to bring the aquaculture industry to one of our third world neighbors. Giving them the hand up they desperately need.

This would help bring his community out of poverty while also taking pressure of a fragile Eco-system and re-introduce local wild life. He has the education, experience and technical back ground to do it.What he and is community need is the funds to get this vital project up and running.

His self funded project has already began building the hatchery that will kick start the entire local industry. Some basic equipment has been purchased but more is needed.

Hamley is a man who has worked so hard helping others. His project is again his legacy that will benefit his community and environment for generations to come.

It would mean the world not just to Hamley, but to all who have had the pleasure to work or associate with him.

Help our Friend. Help our Brother.

In Hamley’s words:

I went home one day on my holiday, I saw the virgin forest being destroyed by a logging company. This is of very little benefit to the villagers. I tried to educate people that this is not the way to go- it destroys the environment. One of the villagers said “For you: you are alright to pay for school fees and food in Australia. For us, this is our only way to pay for basic needs.” So I started thinking of self sustaining income sources to save the rainforest.

The technical side is too much for the villagers themselves. I would provide the expertise to operate the hatchery to spawn the sea cucumber and grow them to a juvenile size. Then the villagers can buy them from me and grow them to size themselves and provide their own income.

One year after logging started: there was a documented mass fish kill caused by runoff from the logging. Before the logging, the village was self sustainable solely from the sea. Fish were plentiful. The environment was pristine. Dependency on royalties from logging has changed their mentality from independent to dependant. Help us to free them!

Hamley has already invested heavily in building the hatchery and coolstore in the Solomons, for the last five years he has been trying to raise enough money to return to his homeland and save his village! He has been delayed by having to fund expenses from his village such as school fees, medical expenses and funeral fees.

Help us to help him return now!
