SCHOLARSHIP ORPHANS HIV/AIDS (OVC)

Donation protected
Dear Patron,

SCHOLARSHIP PROJECT FOR ORPHANED AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN (OVC) FROM HIV/AIDS, TB, MALARIA AND FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

                                    BY
MINORITY HEALTH PROMOTION INITIATIVE, INC. (NGO)

HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria have caused thousands of deaths in Cameroon, Africa and the World, and have rendered many children helpless.
According to National AIDS Control Committee, Central Technical Group (2010) in the publication titled “The Impact of HIV/AIDS in Cameroon through 2020”, the number of children orphaned by AIDS, Tb, and Malaria—children under age 18 who have lost one or both parents to AIDS—has increased dramatically. HIV/AIDS alone rising from 13,000 orphans in 1995 to 304,000 in 2010. By 2020, this number is projected to rise to 350,000. Children orphaned by AIDS represent about 25% of Cameroon’s total 1,200,000 orphans in 2010. Providing appropriate support and care for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) poses challenges for both families and society. Many OVC live outside of family support, and many OVC are marginalized, stigmatized, isolated, and discriminated against. Consequently, they are exposed to harmful conditions such as lack of schooling, low literacy, begging, pedophilia, juvenile delinquency, prostitution, violence, and the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmissible infections (STIs).
We are challenged to  rise up now  and join the journey to raise at least $100,000 to award academic scholarships and gifts   to  500 elementary school students and 20 secondary school students  2017.  A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Helping orphans and people with disabilities means so much to us, and hopefully you.
In 2016,  working in partnership with Iweti Foundation, we offered Scholarships and gifts to 70 elementary School orphans in Widikum totalling $ 25,000.  We want to gradually expand to other Schools in the Subdivision and beyond.
Our goal in 2017 is to offer scholarships and gifts to 500 Elementary School Orphans and 20 Secondary School-level Orphans. We spend money on the following line items:

SUPPORT LINE ITEMS
1. School Uniforms
2. School Bags
3. Complete exercise books for the class level

8. Payment of registration fees for the final year public examination-First School Leaving Certificate(FSLC).

POSITIVE RESULTS OF 2015/2016 SUPPORT

Our effort registered excellent results. A batch of 8 Children supported in Class six passed FSLC with 100%.  From the eight, 7 passed in list "A" in the Government Common Entrance into Secondary Schools for the 2016/2017 School Year.
With your patronage and generous support we can continue to sponsor the students into Secondary Schools and higher while expanding the Elementary School base.
We are  very hopeful that you will support us to meet our 2017 goal and in providing a thousand points of light to the needy. All donations are tax deductible.
