Dennis McCormick's Recovery

As many of you may know, Dennis suffered a massive stroke this past Sunday, while celebrating his grandson's birthday in North Carolina. As expected, this has left him requiring extensive rehabilitation and intensive medical care. At this point, he is medically unable to be transferred to a Buffalo-area facility. 

To  ensure the best possible outcome, his family will need to play an integral role in his recovery process. As this will take place in North Carolina, out-of-state family members will have to make frequent short- and long-term trips to the area. Their continued presence and motivation is essential in Dennis having measurable gains in his rehabilitation. 

Currently, it is difficult to determine how long he will be in rehab, but his medical team is anticipating that it will be at least eight weeks before he would potentially be able to travel back home. When he is cleared to return to Buffalo, he will continue to require medical care and on-going assistive services throughout this long recovery process.  

This is a large, unexpected financial burden, and while Dennis did take certain measures to protect against an unforeseen illness or injury, it still won't begin to compensate for his expensive long-term care.

His family's priority today is to establish consistent, productive and predictable care for Dennis. The greatest challenge is doing so over 600 miles from home.

Anyone who knows Dennis knows that he would always lend a helping hand. While most people reserve their weekends for leisure; Dennis spends his painting a cousin's kitchen or moving an aunt out of an apartment or helping a co-worker tackle a home improvement project. He's the first to pick up the phone and say yes. This is the first time he's doing the calling.
