Saying Goodbye to Zechariah

$20,545 of $25,000 goal

This is Zechariah Hardy.  He’s 19 and the youngest of three children in a close-knit, loving family. Three weeks ago, Zech was burned in a bonfire accident. His burns were severe and the fire caused internal injuries as well which resulted in Zech being placed on life support. His mother, father, big brother, and big sister have been at his side in the hospital, praying for a miracle that would restore Zech’s health.  Zech’s suffering ended on Christmas Day.

Now his grieving parents and siblings need the support of their family, friends, and community as they try to find the strength to say goodbye to Zech. There will be funeral, burial, and hospital expenses for the family to deal with during the most difficult time of their lives.  Please consider donating whatever you can, to help them. All donations will go directly to the Hardy Family.

If you know the Hardys, you know their kindness, their generosity, their faithfulness, and their loving nature. Now is our chance to return some of that back to them.

If you knew Zech, you knew he was soft-spoken, and kindhearted, with his momma’s gentle smile and his dad’s smiling eyes and that nothing meant more to him than his family. These are people who would never ask for help but would give until they had no more to give.

Thank you for your consideration. Please keep Zech’s family in your prayers.

Thank you everyone so much for your great out pouring of Love, Prayers, support and extreme Generosity. Please forgive me for taking so long to thank you. In my heart, I was thanking God for you over and over again, lifting you in prayers, and at Holy Mass, and sometimes naming you, your families and your intentions for a blessing from Heaven.

Thank you Maribeth for the great surprise and being inspired by God to start the GoFundMe. Your Love for God and My family was so beautiful. And for all who shared the GoFundMe page and for the most beautiful, loving comments you added, and all those who donated... God Bless you All abundantly!

You have helped my family and I in so many ways as we heal and go through this most sorrowful time of our lives. God is so good and His Mercy endures forever. We were blessed by God to receive so many miracles, signs and wonder during Zechariah's time in the hospital that continues today.

Zechariah's accident took place on the evening of December 2, 2017, the opening of the advent season.
In the Church, it's a time to prepare for the birth of Christ. And he was called home, on the evening of December 25, 2017, at 8:32pm, Christmas Day - Jesus' birthday!

Thank you again and May God Bless you all in His Merciful Love!!

With Great Love and Prayers,
The Hardy family:
Tim, Tracy, Samuel, Rebekah and Zechariah (in heaven)

PS: I am not a person who really takes pictures, but I was sitting downstairs a week before the accident and felt a prompting by the Holy Spirit to go take the picture of Zech. I went up 2 flights of steps, took Zech's picture, turned around, and went back downstairs. A couple of days later, same thing happened. My family was doing different things, then within 7 minutes we were all out back taking our family photo for the Christmas card. I am forever thankful to God for the Grace of these pictures.

"Never get tired of doing little things for others, sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of their hearts." -
Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

Almost three weeks ago, this campaign began out of a desperate desire to help. The Hardys were faced with the loss of their beautiful son, Zechariah, and there was nothing any of us could do to make them whole again.

So, we focused on attempting to relieve them of some of the financial hardship that can be felt by a family when tragedy strikes. We know that hospitalization is expensive under normal circumstances and these circumstances were extreme. We know that funerals and burials are costly and the last thing that any parent should ever be faced with is planning for their child. We imagine that there could have been lost wages during the weeks that the family stayed by Zech's side in the hospital, and the added expense of travel and feeding a family away from home. We can only imagine what these expenses may amount to and hope that if we're not able to cover these expenses entirely, we can at least put a large dent in them.

This campaign has produced so much openhandedness and compassion. A large number of the contributors to this campaign have been on the receiving end of the same generosity and kindness, at some point, provided by the Hardy Family. Many of us can recount a time, or times, in our lives when Tim and Tracy have stepped in and given selflessly to help us through a tough time or just for no reason other than they're just that kind of people. Or a time (or 100,000 times) when Tracy Hardy's smile has lifted us from sadness or worry or just brightened our day. And when it comes to the Hardy children, Sam, Rebekah, and Zech have shown so much kindness, goodness, true friendship, and love to all of us and our children. Tim and Tracy have gifted this world with three exemplary human beings. Something we all have in common is that we are all truly blessed and undoubtedly incredibly grateful to have been touched by this family.

Then, there are the contributors who don't know the Hardys personally but, when they heard about this loving family in need of prayers and support, they stepped up with awe-inspiring empathy. Witnessing this has been so moving and inspiring.

Thank you for being so giving, for sharing (1,300 times on Facebook alone), and for continuing to share this campaign with others who would consider donating. The "goal" has been increased so that anyone considering donating isn't dissuaded by the "goal reached" message. Again, when we came together to do what we could for the Hardys, we guessed at the expenses they might be facing. I would love to believe that we can cover their expenses and leave them with the beginnings of a memorial fund or possibly a scholarship to honor Zechariah. Either way, your love for them is apparent and your prayers are so much appreciated.

As we work toward taking down our Christmas decorations, tucking things away until next year, and thinking fondly about the time spent with family and friends this Christmas season, my heart continues to ache for the Hardy Family. There was no Christmas celebration for them this year. Zech’s accident took place just after Thanksgiving and Tim, Tracy, Sam, and Rebekah spent the weeks leading up to Christmas in the hospital, by his side, in prayer.

While we were shopping and wrapping gifts, they were faced with the most tragic news they'd ever receive. While we were enjoying time with family and friends, they were overcome with sadness. And while we were celebrating Christmas Day, the Hardy Family was saying goodbye, for now, to Zechariah.

I'll never understand this kind of suffering, especially when it comes to people of this caliber but I know it's not for me to understand. What's important is that the Hardys know we are all thinking of them, praying for them, and supporting them, now and going forward. It's been almost two weeks since Zech was called to heaven, we need to continue to surround the Hardys with love and support.

Please continue to share this campaign with friends and family. Leave a comment on the GoFundMe to remind the Hardys that you're thinking of them and praying for them. Thank you for all of your generosity and for the beautiful messages left for the family so far.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4

But who could have anticipated that the Hardys would be providing comfort to the rest of us? Fr. Mazz (aka "The Pope of Williamstown"-Zechariah Hardy) said it best on Saturday, when he made reference to Tim, Tracy, Sam, and Rebekah's desire and ability to comfort the hundreds of mourning friends and family members who came to Zech's services. The strength and faith of this family is such a wonderful example to all of us.

Please help us continue the momentum of this campaign to help them by sharing it often and contributing what you are able. There are people we haven't reached yet and it's just a matter of making sure they're aware of the campaign because there's no doubt they'll want to help the Hardys as well.

The days to come are going to be so trying for this family and they'll need our continued prayers and generosity. Thank you so much.
