Sawubona Lab: Bike Shop

Donation protected

This summer Sawubona Lab continues the "Re-Imagine Black Wall Street" project with a Bike Repair and Sales Shop ran by the young people in UNWA neighborhood in Indianapolis, IN.

They will participate with other young people in this neighborhood to cultivate their very own bike shop. They will learn to run and operate a small business by learning the mechanics of bicycles, purchasing, inventory, customer service and bookkeeping. At the end of the summer if they decide to, they can continue running this business during the summertime for as long as they like.

The bike inventory has been graciously donated by IMPD (Thank you Chief Roach!) and Butler PD. The participants will be repairing and reselling the donated bicycles. All profits go back into the bike shop to purchase inventory parts and stipends for the young people.

We are raising money to purchase inventory parts to repair the donated bicycles and to have on-site bicycle mechanics to train the technical aspects of bike repair throughout the summer.

Donations made directly through the gofundme campaign should be considered micro-investments into the gifts and talents of these young people.
