Saving Jacquelynn

$1,023 of $5,000 goal

This is my wife, Jacquelynn Novak.  Jacquelynn has an IQ of 160+, graduated high school at 16 and had her Masters at 21.

In March of 2017, at 58 years of age, after years of battling recurrent kidney stones and immediately following two bouts of severe sepsis in less than a month, this lovely, brilliant woman was diagnosed with Acute, Early-Onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Upon reaching this diagnosis, aside from ordering repetitive invasive testing and neurological screening, her doctor essentially wrote her off.  “We’ll be with you to the end” were his words.

End?  Screw that.

Outside mainstream medicine, under the guidance of brilliant doctors working on the very cutting edge of science, people are now recovering from this terrifying disease.  Of course, “Outside the mainstream” also means, “not covered by insurance”.

Jacquelynn has been undergoing one such experimental treatment since last September and has shown considerable improvement.  There is still very far to go before we can use the word “recovered”, but “in recovery” is certainly accurate.

Unfortunately, in order to care for her and guide her treatment effectively, I was forced to quit work last September.  We had a modest savings, which would allow us to maintain for a while, and the end of that savings is approaching.

But she’s not yet safe on her own.  Tasks you and I view as basic, such as using the microwave to heat up a meal, pouring a glass of juice, or even managing the remote control for the television lie yet a bit beyond her reach.  She can dial me on the phone via the one-touch feature but can get confused with the functions if trying to dial another number (911, for instance).  In addition, her meds and meals must be prepared and delivered with care and precision, and on a timely schedule.

I wasn’t raised with the idea of asking for help.  Earn it or do without was the lesson I grew up with, and I have lived by that philosophy for approaching 52 years.  But this isn’t for me: this is to save my wife’s life.

So I’m asking for your help.  Every $5000 (approximately) we can raise allows me to remain at home and minister to Jacquelynn’s needs and recovery for an additional month.  If I'm forced to return to work before Jacquelynn is ready and safe on her own, if I have to leave her to the ministrations of a home-care nurse or leave her at a care facility during the day, it could severely impact the discipline of her recovery protocols and set back or potentially destroy her progress.

God and the Universe willing, we won’t need too very many months, but it is certain that we need a few more now.

If you are able to help, we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts.  If not, I would be equally grateful if you could share this forward, for other generous friends-to-be that may be able to help.

Thank You,

Matthew Jarrett
