Baddy J473 is a retired Marine Corps Military Working Dog (MWD) that is diagnosed with prostate cancer. I am his previous handler of 2 years and a Marine Corps veteran finishing my undergraduate education at the University of Southern California. The best care option I can give him to prolong his life while retaining quality is intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) which is outside of my financial capabilities. Once MWDs are retired the federal government fails to provide any medical assistance to these warriors that served so selflessly. This is why I need your help. I am calling upon those that believe we make our own destiny, that understand the power of community, and those that wish to give back to those that served. He is a fighter and has a warrior spirit; I know with IMRT we can surpass even the most optimistic estimation but we need your help first. You do your part and we promise to do ours. No amount of money and awareness goes unappreciated. Semper Fi-ght On, Baddy!!!

To clear up any possible confusion I regret to inform you all that Baddy passed away February 25th of this year. I had help in setting up a beautiful memorial service for him; one of which I believe he would be proud.
I still have about $5,000 in vet charges: $2,200 on my CareCredit and $3,000 on my personal credit card. All donations will be used to pay off the CareCredit card. I have had such a humbling response as a result of the Yahoo article and am eternally grateful for those who chose to donate to help me with this financial burden.

I feel like it's a gray area to put any money towards my personal credit card so I will not do it. If you feel like you'd like to help regardless, please specifically state in your comment that you approve of me using your donation to pay off the vet charges on my personal credit card.
Either way, back when Baddy needed the care, I accepted the fact that I would have to shoulder the financial burden. He was everything to me meaning I could never put a price tag on his life. You are all angels in your moral and financial support. I truly feel blessed and hope that one day retired MWDs won't need to rely on the community for their healthcare.

I received the greatest present in my life this birthday when the doctor said that Baddy is now estimated to live at least 2 years instead of 4 months which was his estimation before treatment. I have all of you to thank for that blessing and wish I could appropriately articulate my gratitude. On top of that, I paid off the medical credit card, CareCredit, that I used to start Baddy's treatment with your donations. With $1,500 already donated to his treatment from the Sage Foundation, Gizmo's Gift, and Combat Canines: The Ddoc FoundationI, I still owed and paid off $8,435. Baddy still has to receive Chemo treatments and the $1,500 remaining will go towards those treatments. I write this with tears of happiness in my eyes as you have all greatly impacted my view on the world & humanity. I'm not only blessed to have Baddy in my life but also to have your support and empathy.Happy birthday to me indeed!!!

I love the weekends! During the week, Baddy seems a little slow, I am sure to the sedation they give him during treatments. But on the weekend he is lively and playing! He is so fun and so loving - we enjoyed the weekend and look forward to the downward side of radiation treatment! We are counting the days! Thanks for continuing to care about Baddy and his fight!! He is a true Marine!

You may use the money anyway you see fit. I would like to thank you and Baddy for your service. I think that ALL veterans have earned health care during and after their service.

Charlsie, just for what you did, who you are and, especially for your service, you use the funds however you feel. Wish it could be more, but, contrary to certain views, the current economy doesn't permit. Perhaps more next month and, Charlsie ... SEMPER FI!

Please use my small donation however you see fit. I just saw this story for the first time today. I know how you are hurting and you have my deepest sympathy. You gave so much--thank you. Shame on the the Senate for not caring about these dogs who give their all.

My wife and I know how it is to lose a furry child. We lost our beloved GSD, Selena, 8 years ago to cancer and still miss her so much. You did all you could for Baddy and I'm sure he loved you even more for it. You took on such a financial burden, so please use our donation any way you see fit. We'd like to make this donation in memory of our good friend, Paul Hillis. God bless you for caring so much about one of God's creatures.

What an amazing person you are to have given all that you did to this noble animal. My husband and I lost one of our sweet girls the day before Baddy - February 24th. These creatures are so giving, loving, and devoted to us, they deserve nothing less in return. You did so much to fulfill that. Bless you sweet girl. :)

Hi Charlsie! I cried when I saw that Baddy had passed over the Rainbow Bridge - as us Animal Lovers say. I am truly sorry for your loss! My heartfelt Sympathies go out to you! I too have lost a loving Companion and Friend and know what it feels like! I hope my small Donation helps in some way - either for Baddy's Veterinarian Bill or for the expenses accrued on your Credit Card for Baddy. Sending you a big Hug! Sincerely, Tara Leesa Davis

I started to read the Yahoo article yesterday. As soon as I got to the gofundme link, I immediately made a contribution. I was devastated to return to finish the article and read that Baddy had passed. Please use both contributions to help pay down your personal credit card debts. This is to honor Baddy's service, your service and my father's (RIP) military service to our country.
