Saving Sherri From Cancer

THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANY OF US

Please meet Sherri Fallon.  Sherri is from Hope Valley, Rhode Island.

Eleven years ago, Sherri was diagnosed with stage four HER2 breast cancer. At the time, she had a great job at the YMCA as a membership director.  Excellent insurance, and she thought, "excellent health."

She walked into what she thought was a simple CVS breast cancer awareness van, and along with her good friend, took a routine test, and didn't think anything of it.  Until the results came back with the dreaded sentence of, "Your tests came back irregular so please follow up with your Dr."  That is when the wind got knocked out of Sherri.

(Sherri and her incredible husband, Bill)

For the past eleven years, she and her husband have fought this cancer with every inch of her body.  She went to Dana Farber  in Boston and got started immediately thinking, "I will do what the Doctor's tell me to do."

At this point, she has been through hell and back.  She has had a mastectomy, been in remission, has seen the cancer turn to leukemia, then to the bones, then to her brain. She has been rushed to the hospital in the middle of the day, and in the middle of the night.  She has fallen in her house, fallen on people, and in the photo below, she is hanging onto her son, Josh, while dancing at his wedding.  It is a heartbreaking and beautiful photo.

Most recently, (Dec 2017) to reduce the tumors and swelling in her brain, she decided to listen to the Doctors again and she had brain surgery with the hope that she could walk normal again.  It didn’t work.  But she still has stayed positive. She now walks slowly around the house when she has the energy,  but with a walker.

Week after week, Chemo after chemo, surgery after surgery, Sherri never complained. She just kept saying, “Let me make it to my son’s graduation”..  In 2016, she did that.   Then she said, “Let me make it to my son’s wedding.” She made it to both of her sons weddings, and although she walked slowly, she even walked down the aisle.  We all cried tears of happiness. (The strength and determination that she has is incredible) It was a tough thirty second walk.  And she even smiled.  She has always been so optimistic and has never asked for anything.

At Christmas this past year, she needed a wheelchair.  Without asking anybody, she and her angel of a husband, Bill, bought one, but on credit.  This is when she began to realize that she was beginning to run short of money.

Co payment after co payment, she never complained.  She just kept thinking that she would beat this cancer. When she went for chemo, again...place it on credit, because she really did not have the resources, but she did have a credit card.

I remember one day that I called Sherri and she and Bill were driving home from Boston's Dana Farber Hospital.  She was stuck in the southbound traffic and because she did not have the energy to sit up, she told me that she was laying down in the back seatShe still remained optimistic.

I hope that you get the picture here.  Sherri is sick.  So much so now that it is actually scaring her. :(

This list of medical issues pertaining to Sherri's cancer could go on but lets talk about why she needs help.

First, Sherri cannot really go out to a restaurant without major help, so this go fund me account is to help her pay her medical bills.  It’s not for a pleasure cruise.

The reason that we have started this fund is to help Sherri with her medical bills, help her pay for the wheelchair, and assist her with the payments of treatments and her medical insurance that the insurance does not cover.

The funds will also help her stay in a hotel overnight in Boston while she is getting the weekly treatments that she still needs.

Sherri has never asked for anything, she took in a child when she was dropped off at the YMCA, did what she could to help her, and she has done everything that the Doctors have asked her to do.  She is a genuine incredible person.

She did not ask for Cancer to strike her.  It chose her.

But suddenly, and eleven years later, she is now realizing that she cannot do this by herself.  Although she continues to smile through this journey, her smile is getting more difficult and is seen less and less.

If you find it in your heart to want to help Sherri, it would more than likely help one of the strongest and kind-hearted persons that I know.  And she is my sister....
