Saving Rhett

Donation protected
On Saturday August 4th I was traveling up the highway around 5pm when I saw two dogs trying to cross the median. I slowed down only to watch this beautiful boy get hit by a van who did try their best to get slowed down but Rhett couldn't get out of the way in time. I pulled my car off the highway quickly and took off running backwards trying to get to him. He had tried getting up to run with his Fur Brother only to collapse in the grassy median. When I got to him I knew I needed help. I made a phone call to my dear friend who lived close by in hopes that her husband could come help me save this gentle giant only to become more devastated in finding out that he was their family dog. He and his fur brother escaped their yard to go on an adventure that lead them to a heavy fast traveled highway which resulted in tragedy. I stayed with him, keeping him hydrated with bottles of water and accessing his injuries until his family arrived.

Rhett was rushed by his family Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center where he was prepped for bloodwork and a full body x-ray. X-rays came back by the grace of god with no broken bones or internal bleeding at that time. Rhett wasn't getting the oxygen he needed, so he had to be kept over night on oxygen and monitored by his doctors.

On Sunday August 5th Rhett took a turn for the worse. He was dependent on Oxygen, His heart began filling up with blood. The doctors had to put in a tube to drain and prep him for a full blood transfusion.

By 8pm he began to perk up. The blood transfusion had worked. The vet said Rhett did a 180 and he was becoming more himself. When his Mama arrived to see him, he showed signs of excitement for the first time since the accident, which was heart warming for everyone.

We are never prepared for a financial emergency such as this and Rhett has spent 3 days thus far in the emergency vet with hopes of coming home to his family soon, especially two small children who are eager for their favorite boy to come home. I am asking that you find it in the kindness of your heart to donate and help anyway you can, even just saying a prayer for this sweet boy and his family.  The family has already paid thousands to save him, and I know they and I would appreciate everyone's support during this difficult time as they and the doctors do everything in their power to bring this big guy home!
