Punta Santiago Dogs is a 501c3 rescue that saves dogs from the streets of rural Puerto Rico and helps them to heal before finding them homes in the mainland US. Dash and Grace each have unique medical conditions that require expensive veterinary care.
While the rest of Dash's family have been transported the northeast, little Dash is still in Puerto Rico and has been fighting for his life. Instead of getting to make the freedom flight with his family, Dash has spent 2 weeks hospitalized and battling Parvovirus. Parvovirus is a deadly canine virus that destroys the immune system and is almost always fatal, especially for puppies. Luckily we were able to move quickly to get Dash hospitalized and thanks to the *amazing* love and care of our dedicated veterinary team, he has gone from not being able to stand up or eat himself to having a second chance at life.
Grace was an overbred and neglected mama only one year old that we found nursing her 4 puppies in terrible condition in an abandoned school. While Grace and her puppies have all made it to the mainland US, Grace has tested heartworm positive. Heartworm is a mosquito-borne illness characterized by an infestation of parasites that live in both the heart and the pulmonary arteries. This illness ultimately leads to congestive heart failure and death if not treated.
Both Dash and Grace are incredibly sweet and have the true spirit of a Puerto Rican sato - friendly, happy, grateful, and loyal. Together, treatment for their illnesses has set us *very* far back financially. We cannot continue to save dogs until we have paid off their vet bills. Please consider donating, even just a few dollars, to help us reach our goal and resume rescuing!
