Save Ward Park!

Donation protected
Residents need your help to save historic Ward Park land in Marlborough Ma. Ward Park has been public use park land since 1925, the year it was opened and dedicated "to the youth of Marlborough".
But now the city is planning to take a large portion of the parks remaining open field space to construct a 22,000 square foot municipal building. Our view on this is simple; land that has been used by children for recreation for 88 years should not be taken away from them. Leave it for today's kids and all the future generations to enjoy. Once the city takes it away, it will never be regained.

Your donation will go towards residents legal bills, which could include filing a lawsuit if enough give generously. The resident's lawyer says that the city of Marlborough Ma. is going against the state constitution, state laws, and a Doctrine of Prior Public use. We feel our best chance to keep this park land in use for the children of Marlborough is to continue the legal effort.

A legal campaign is only the most recent in a long series of steps to stop this taking of public use park land. A neighborhood group started a petition which has gained 932 signatures. 820 were made online and 112 are hand written. There were one-on-one meetings with city councilors and a trip to Cambridge to research deeds. Flyers were distributed door to door; letters were written to state agencies, city agencies, city council and state government. Countless articles and editorials were written and published in the papers. Dozens of city meetings were monitored. The attitude of the mayor continues to be dismissive of the opponents with no intention of considering their objections. Marlborough City Council has voted to approve his project, and now we only have one or two weeks left before Ward Park land is taken away forever.

Please support the property owners who have retained the lawyer in their legal efforts against the city. The property owners need to raise a considerable amount of money to continue their legal campaign, and are asking for your help by donating. To date, individual contributions of $100 to $200 have been made, and we wish you would consider donating likewise; however any amount is welcome and greatly appreciated. Your donation can be made anonymously.

Please forward this to anyone you feel would support the cause. Thank you.
