The Boys and Girls Club of Lee County will not re-open the Suncoast Club located at 1856 Suncoast Lane in North Fort Myers for the 2017/2018 school year.
For the past three years, one of our funding sources, the Department of Education, has reduced funding. In total, we have lost $55,884 since July 2014 from that source alone. That is nearly the entire annual operating cost for the Suncoast Club, which is $62,000.
With fewer resources, we had to make a change and it was decided the Suncoast unit would be closed.
We can save this Club if we all chip in!
Since 1974 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County have given our young people in need the support, guidance, and tools to succeed in life. Our goal is to reach the kids that need us the most and give them an outcome driven club experience that will result in:
- Graduating from high school and taking the next step whether that is college, trade school, the military or employment
- Being an engaged citizen involved in the community, registered to vote and a model of strong character
- Practicing a healthy lifestyle with a good diet, positive choices and a lifelong commitment to fitness.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County works to provide a safe place for children to explore their interests, gain knowledge and learn valuable life skills. It is through fundraising efforts within our community that the Boys & Girls Clubs are able to fulfill their mission, to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. As a proud United Way agency, the Club is staffed by youth development professionals who instill a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, and influence to the youth they serve.
