#SaveSoundSkool

Soundskool is a not for profit Music Industry college and community with a vibrant, exciting and creative learning environment. Our mission is 'Changing young people's lives through music.'

We found out, only three weeks ago that our funding is being cut for our delivery in September. We now have 70 students who are enrolled and have no college course to attend. Naturally, this is a devastating blow to the organisation, but we are seeking alternatives, and hoping that we will be able to continue delivering our music industry provision to London’s young people.

Your donations will help to equip our classrooms with iMacs for music production, composition and coursework completion. It will ensure that the necessary music software is on each computer and that the classrooms will be equipped with music instruments which are essential to the development of our learners.

What has happened:
It is with great sadness that on the 23rd May 2018 we announced to our students and staff that SoundSkool will no longer be contracting with the College of North East London and Haringey for the academic year of 2018 – 2019. Following the merger of CONEL into the Capital City College Group, the wider college has a surplus of 16-18 year olds, meaning they have more than they are currently funded for. Subsequently, the college has made the decision to end the subcontracting of the 16-18 provision group-wide, including their contract with SoundSkool. A letter was sent to us on Friday 18th May 2018 from CONEL stating that our contract was being cut. The students only have 3 more weeks of teaching left at Soundskool. They have left us in an impossible situation and have put the whole organisation in jeopardy as it is very little time to find a new partner, premises, and equipment. This means that 70 students now do not have a secure college space for next semester. 40 of these students are returning students, 20 of whom are on a two-year course which is worth 3 A Levels, to be left without a place to study will seriously affect their chances of attending University. Six of the 70 students have got Educational healthcare plans, two of these students were on track to attend university. Our specialist staff who have given their heart and soul to SoundSkool are also left without a job in September.

What does this mean for SoundSkool students and staff?
In light of this devastating news, the SoundSkool team will be now be working tirelessly to secure the funding, premises and equipment to continue the college to start September 2018 as originally planned.

However, due to the very late notice of this news, we will also be supporting students in securing a back-up/plan B option in the event of us not being able to secure this.  The future of our students is our biggest priority, so we want to ensure that they have a definite placement for September. We would like to reach out to everyone who has been involved in and supported SoundSkool in the past and anyone who may be able to help our plight in any way, to ask for your support in spreading this message and raising awareness of our cause. Any and all support is greatly appreciated, whether it’s word of mouth, suggestions for further solutions or a social media post on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook or Twitter.
