Help Us Save Prairie Dogs!
Remember Keurig?! She was one of the lucky ones. Just last week, we did a follow up visit to her colony’s new home….and it looks fabulous! We are excited! Her pdog town has dug more than 90 new burrows to live in!
Please help us save more prairie dogs like Keurig and her coterie!
-Last year, PDC saved more prairie dogs than ever before - over 1600!
-These animals were rescued and relocated to protected areas.
-We are trying to match that number for 2017! Please donate today to help us raise the funds needed to get there.
-As we move into 2017, we have already been contacted by several communities, other organizations, and tribal and government agencies in need of our help. -The PDC with their innovative non-lethal solutions are leading the charge to save prairie dogs, and it is when a colony is saved through our collaborative efforts with these groups and individuals that we feel the impact of our important work.
We can do it together and we need your help. Although some groups that have reached out to us to save prairie dogs can pay for part or all of the relocations-- the majority cannot. This is where you step in! 2017 is looking to be an even bigger year than last, and we need your help to raise $50,000 by the end of the summer in order to save as many prairie dogs as possible. The PDC strives to provide land and wildlife managers access to non-lethal tools to protect the prairie; using the best techniques for safely moving intact family groups of prairie dogs and entire colonies, where they can be healthy and happy and out of harm’s way.
Keurig was part of a 500 prairie dog colony that was slated for extermination on BLM land in Kansas, but instead, she and the rest of her colony were rescued by the Prairie Dog Coalition (PDC) of the Humane Society of The United States, and relocated to a new home on a 40,000 acre conservation ranch in Kansas. It is truly in moments like these that the PDC staff understands the impact of their important work, and we work tirelessly to protect and rescue prairie dogs, like Keurig, from a devastating fate. Not all prairie dogs are this lucky.
As you are reading this, prairie dogs are dying somewhere and colonies are placed in harm’s way due to urban sprawl or other wildlife conflict situations. A world without prairie dogs means a world without black-footed ferrets, burrowing owls, swift foxes, ferruginous hawks, and many more! Please join us today by making a donation that will help us to continue to save this critical species, one Keurig at a time.
By donating, you not only help save the lives of individual prairie dogs doomed to be killed in cruel and inhumane ways, but you are safeguarding the prairie dog ecosystem for generations to come. Every level of donation is critical so we can save more prairie dogs. Each donor will receive a picture of a prairie dog that you helped save! Without caring people like you who take action, prairie dogs like Keurig and her family would not have the chance to live out their lives. Join us today, become a part of this Campaign for wildlife.
