Save Geri - Medical Emergency

Donation protected
Geri Chinnery is a kind, compassionate, selfless man. He is a bright light in his community – a source of wisdom, support, and guidance to both young and old, and loved by all who know him. On Wednesday, Geri suffered an embolism that subsequently lead to an intraparenchymal hemorrhagic stroke. A CT scan showed bleeding in his third and fourth ventricles.

This is a medical emergency
that requires a ventriculostomy, a neurosurgical procedure where a hole is drilled in the cerebral ventricle for drainage.
Geri is currently in the ICU at Peebles Hospital in Tortola - a facility with no neurological unit. Trapped in a hospital without any capacity for adequate treatment, Geri cannot receive the urgent lifesaving surgery that he is entitled to and deserves. For the past three days, friends and family have been working around the clock to have Geri transferred to the neurological unit of a US hospital for surgery, where he can receive the lifesaving treatment and care he needs.

Even though he is an American citizen, Geri does not have medical insurance and therefore no American hospital is willing to receive him without the paid upfront cost of upwards of $70,000 USD for transfer expenses ($20,000) and medical procedures (estimated $50,000). As an American citizen, Geri should qualify for Emergency Medicaid, though he is being denied this right because he is currently outside US borders in the British Virgin Islands.

Without proper medical attention, Geri’s condition could be fatal. Right now he is trapped in a foreign land in a hospital that is not equipped to help him. The doctors and social workers at Peebles Hospital can do nothing apart from periodic sedation. Geri is not doomed yet – he is still viable. Though his left foot is weak and numb, he is conversing and coherent. Money is the only barrier between Geri and a fully recovery. As an American and a human being, Geri is deserving of what is, by American standards, a routine yet life saving treatment that he is currently being denied.

We are asking for help getting Geri back to his home country so he can be saved. He is so loved and we are not ready to lose him. Without hesitation, he would give everything he had to any person in need. He is a beacon of love and light and there is still a lot we have yet to learn from his generosity and kind spirit. Every little bit helps.

If you are unable to help finance Geri’s transfer to an American hospital, we ask that anyone with ties to an American hospital that may be willing to accept Geri pro-bono reach out to us immediately.
This is a medical emergency and we need to work fast to preserve his current neurological function and prevent further, and possibly fatal, damage. Please help us save him!
