The Shrinking Sanctuary Documentary

Donation protected

My name is Mark Albertin and I am a filmmaker.
Earlier this year, I spent two nights camping at Cumberland Island off the Georgia coast. While there, I met with a close friend and as we talked about the beauty of the island she began to cry. Cumberland will do that to you. It evokes something so deep, so pure within us that there are no words we can say...the tears streaming down her cheeks said it all.
Cumberland Island is one of the last of it's kind. One of the few islands off of our coast that has been left relatively free of development. A living museum of natural history. A place where troubled souls go to heal. Where around a trail cradled in the branches of live oaks and Spanish moss, you could almost expect to see the land as it was 200 years ago. Rich with indigenous peoples and diverse specicies. Beautiful parts of this area that were wiped out years ago to make the land "civilized."
But Cumberland Island is on the brink of becoming a developed island.
Right now, very powerful and wealthy people are pushing to have a subdivision created on Cumberland. Once the door is opened, I can assure you the change will be rapid. More people will come, rules will be overturned, money will exchange hands. New roads will appear, traffic, leaf blowers, barking dogs and the smell of exhaust and fast food. And the next generations who come after us will never know the feeling my friend had when that tear streamed down her face. They will only know of a commercialized world, void of the most beautiful thing our god has given us...the wilderness.
I hope you will help me in stopping this from happening. Please. Can we just leave something for the future?

This gofundme campaign will be used to help me produce a 30-minute documentary about Cumberland Island, about it's beauty and the experience and why developement of any kind will be a loss for all of us.

The funds raised will go towards purchasing stock footage, music, gear rental and transportation/lodging costs while I am going back and fourth to the island from my home.

Time is of the essence. Things are moving very quickly and I need to devote serious time putting this video together and capturing footage. And by that, I mean between now and April 30, 2017.

I'm just one person with a goal to use my skills as a filmmaker and producer to create a film which could help turn the tide away from development. In a previous film I created about an oil pipeline, DVD copies were sent to legislators in both Georgia and South Carolina and guess what, a moratorium was put on the pipeline.
The film was called "At What Cost? Pipelines Pollution and Eminent Domain in the Rural South." Here is a link: https://vimeo.com/149784370

I'd like to see the same thing happen here, with Cumberland Island, but I need your help to finish what I have started.
