Save C Art Gallery!!!

Artists--Art Patrons--and those who appreciate and understand the importance to use the arts to support and encourage Cultural Diversity!

The legacy of C Art Gallery and its service to underrepresented artists is being priced out of existence .

After nine years of community service, C Art Gallery received notice from Artspace Hiawatha Lofts that an additional $1,500 security deposit was required and our rent would increase $500 a month beginning May 1st 2017.  With less than 30 days notice, the burden of the additional expense threatens to close the gallery right before our 10th anniversary.

Since our humble beginnings, we have weathered many challenges including a fire and resulting flood that closed the gallery for nine months in 2013.  Now with this unanticipated 35% increase in overhead expenses, we have no choice but to turn to compassionate art collectors, artists and those that value diversity to help keep this community institution open.
We stand committed to expose new art and artists of different cultural backgrounds, help launch careers and promote understanding through the arts with your support.  This campaign will provide the influx of cash needed to remain open while we invigorate our programs to attract new patrons while staying true to our mission.

Funds raised will be used to:

--offset the significant unanticipated increase in overhead expenses required to renew our lease.

--help us continue to operate without interruption; and

--help launch the next decade of community art programs at the gallery to include:  student curated shows, monthly politically themed exhibits e.g., (visions of the supreme court) and drop in art classes for youth.

Donate to the Save C Art Gallery Campaign and host your event or exhibit:

--Donors who contribute $250 or more may curate a one week visual art show at the gallery with 50% of the shows gross sales designated to support C Art Gallery student drop in art classes.

--Donors who contribute $100-$249 may host a private social event at the gallery for a 3 hour period.

--Donors who contribute $50-$99 will receive a complimentary signed print from a local artist.

--All donors will be acknowledged at a Paint Party at C Art Gallery where each donors name will be painted on a commemorative canvas to share with the public how ordinary people can come together to save a valuable cultural institution.

C Art Gallery History
C Art Gallery the first African American woman owned gallery in the Pacific Northwest opened in 2008 as an anchor tenant  at ArtSpace Hiawatha Lofts in Seattle, Washington by founder Cheryl Shaw.  Cheryl , a woman with a rich history of working with and supporting artists had a vision to provide a space for underrepresented artists to show and sale their work.  She realized that many galleries did not exhibit pieces that expressed the rich cultural diversity of our world.

After developing the gallery with a local architectural firm and general contractor and investing over $60k of her own funds, she partnered with fine artist Eric Salisbury to develop the gallery.

Since its opening, C Art Gallery has featured over 250 local, national and international artists and hosted community events, provided art classes and featured performing artists that otherwise would not have had the opportunity to share their creative genius.

We have until May 1, 2017 to raise the support we need to continue our work.  Your support is invaluable and we are deeply grateful for every contribution to help C Art Gallery survive and thrive.

Help us keep this community institution alive and thriving to serve underrepresented artists and students in the next decade.

Will C Art Gallery be here next month?
We really will leave this question to our community and those who love the arts.  We hope you will help us stay and continue our legacy of support to underrepresented artists.

In the meantime, please reflect on our history and the photos below and share your memories of C Art Gallery on our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/communitygallery/ and please be sure to visit our website at www.cartgallery.org

The mission of the gallery is to promote art and artists of different cultural backgrounds, to encourage diversity, promote understanding and positive dialogue.
