The Apple Blossom Festival, a not for profit organization, takes place in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia and covers areas from Windsor; the birthplace of hockey, all the way to Digby; home of their famous Digby Scallops. The Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival runs annually the last weekend of May and has been doing so for 83 years, this year being their 84th. With 84 years of festival comes 84 years of tradition and agricultural heritage.

Flashback to a simpler time: early colonists from Europe introduced the sweet secnt of apple blossoms to the Annapolis Valley. From the 1600's on, production of apples was an industry with both the Planters and later the Loyalists planting orchards up and down the Valley. In peak years, nearly 3 million barrels of apples were harvested, valuable crops indeed!

The aroma of the apple blossoms are celebrated in the spring, filling the air with excitement and anticipation for another growing season. This excitement sparked the idea of a festival to celebrate the areas deep roots firmly planted in agriculture and tradition. In 1933, plans were put into action and the Apple Blossom Festival was born.

Today, the Apple Blossom Festival boasts as one of the largest consecutive running festivals in the Maritimes, as well as having one of the longest running Children's Parades in Atlantic Canada. Aside from the theatrics of a grand street parade, fireworks display; that attracts thousands to the park for the show, and various vendors and events for all the family to enjoy, the Apple Blossom Festival celebrates leaders in the Annapolis Valley by putting on a Leadership Competition that is as old as the festival itself. Young women from communities all across in the Annapolis Valley vie for the title of Queen Annapolisa while representing their home community and promoting the festival on a wider scale. These young ladies gain immense knowledge and skills in the areas of public speaking, leadership, and communication throughout their journey; as well as friendships and connections that last a lifetime. Ask any woman who has particiated in the program, it is a lifechanging and ever so rewarding experience!

Unfortunately, the Apple Blossom Festival has run into some issues where funding and volunteers are lacking. It takes thousands of sponsorship dollars to plan, organize and implement the 6 very busy days of festival, and a board of 12 very dedicated volunteers do their best to make it all possible. In 2015 alone, $69,000 was needed to run the festival (these numbers can be viewed in more detail on our website listed below). The festival is rolling on but donations are needed to keep it going.

The Apple Blossom Festival celebrates our proud agricultural heritage, promotes young leaders, and brings great dollars into a struggling economy.

The festival is set to commence its 84th year this May 25th to 30th but we are in dire need of financial help to keep this wonderful event running. After 84 years, we could not imagine this event coming to an end, and we need everyones help in making another 84 years of tradition possible.

Funds raised will go towards the operation and expense of putting on this event. Any donation is greatly appreciated, we need all the help we can get! More information about our festival can be viewed at www.appleblossom.com

Thank you so much for your time and donation!
