Save Yelapa's Ferretería

Donation protected

On September 29, 2019 Tropical Storm Narda descended on Yelapa Mexico with a vengence. Small seasonal streams became raging torrents and the river Tuito caused a flash flood that took out the bridge, homes and boats as it rushed toward the ocean. The normally scenic town waterfall caused enormous destruction as well as it cascaded down through the pueblo and into the ocean. The force of this water hit one side of the ferretería, (Yelapa Hardware Store), and took out part of the foundation and the entrire floor. We lost just about everything including shelving units full of inventory for plumbing,  building materials, many different types of tools, all of our electronics and our safe with cash collected over the prior business week.Ferretería Yelapa has been an integral part of Yelapa for almost 14 years. I originally started the business in a small bodega in 2005. I had decided to leave Oregon and create a life for myself in Yelapa. I knew little about hardware but I brought my retail business skills with me and soon figured out a way to bring materials over from Puerto Vallarta. It was the first "hardware store" in Yelapa and remains so today. Prior to this service, people had to go to Puerto Vallarta to buy materials for construction or home repairs. Over the years, quite a few young students have spent their high schools years working in the ferretería and learning retail business skills. This experience provided them with invaluable tools to prepare them for University and eventual careers which have included Administrative management.

We specialize in plumbing, electrical, general tools, cement products, many items for the home, boat repair items, horse shoes, rope, paint and painting supplies to name a few. We must rebuild the ferretería as soon as possible  As Yelapa continues to clean up in the aftermath of Narda, people will need to have access to materials in order to repair their houses and businesses. Without Yelapa's ferreterria, people will be forced to travel to Puerto Vallarta once again. Our intention is to rebuild the ferretería as soon as possible. All donations will be used to support this effort
