Save The Mornington Shelter Animals
Save the Mornington Shelter Animals Committee, organised by animal advocate Rosy Fischer, want to find out the outcome of impounded animals over the last year as well as financial records relating to revenue acquired through animal registrations, impound fees, and the current budget for the Mornington Animal Shelter. Our request to access this information under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 as in the public's interest was denied. However, the Council will provide this information for a cost of near $1200.00
We have decided that the information sent back to us by the Mornington Shire, in response to our FOI request, was inadequate throughout most of the questions. We have lodged a complaint and a request for a review with the Freedom of Information Commissioner.
Also, a partial refund of $407.73 was given back to us from the Mornington Shire for not using the up to 50 hours first deemed by the Shires FOI officer as necessary to provide all requested information( In my opinion they should have used all those hours and taken the time to supply a more concise document). All donations not used have been put aside to be used for any future action we may have to take pertaining to this FOI. I am including a photo of refund offered. I will update as we get more information on how our review is proceeding.
FOR THE ANIMALS
The FOI reply has arrived and we are going through it with a "fine-tooth comb" as I write.
I will update again, once we have completed looking it over, with what steps we will be taking next.
