Save the Blue Meanie

We are the folk duo Hungrytown. In 2003, we left our New York City day jobs and risked everything to move to Vermont and pursue a full-time career as traveling musicians, which we've done successfully, touring the US, UK, Europe and New Zealand regularly.

In 2006, using the last of our retirement funds and money from awful places, we purchased our unique and beloved camper van known as the Blue Meanie, aka, the Third Townie, custom designed by Sportsmobile of Austin, Texas. It is fitted with two large solar panels, a mini kitchen, bathroom, and storage for our professional sound system and four instruments.

A good part of our income has gone towards keeping the Blue Meanie in good repair; nonetheless, things do go wrong. While traveling on our annual Further West Tour of the American south and southwest, it suffered a one-two punch of steering and transmission failure in the beautiful city of Phoenix, Arizona. Handling the myriad smallish problems has never been much of an issue, but this one is staggering. Though branded as a Dodge, the van is secretly a Mercedes-Benz, and its refurbished transmission is currently being ferried across the Atlantic from Baden-Württemberg, or wherever the heck they make these things. Total repairs will come in at around--gulp-- $11,000, more than just about any non-celebrity musician has in his or her account or line of credit.

Though we successfully crowd-funded our most recent album, Further West, this is the first time we have had to resort to our friends for a non-music expense. We desperately want to keep the Blue Meanie alive for more touring adventures, bringing our music to as many far-flung places as possible for whatever time we have left. Replacement of the entire camper would cost around $150,000, so we think this repair makes the most sense under these difficult circumstances.

If you know our music and our touring history, and want to help the Blue Meanie in its hour of need--and have some disposable income to do so--please consider this opportunity to help us, and you, go once again down Hungrytown Road.

Love,

Rebecca Hall & Ken Anderson

FAQs
If you've never done this before, how can you have FAQs?
If we had all the answers, we wouldn't be doing this.

Seriously? There are people dying of uninsured diseases. People have lost their homes in wildfires. And you're asking us to fix your stupid camper?
We need your help nonetheless.  The Blue Meanie is as much a part of our family as your most cherished dog, cat or, God help us, ferret. Plus, it has allowed us to make a living playing music.

I have $10,000 burning a hole in my pocket. Why don't I just take care of the whole thing?
Well, okay then!

You realize, of course, that I'm only a figment of your desperate imaginations.
*sigh*

So what happens if you exceed your $10,000 goal?
All excess monies would go towards funding our next album, which we would really like to start this year.
