Give a Stray Dog a New Life
Donation protected
I'm riding my motorcycle throughout South America and stop to feed stray dogs whenever I can. I met Sunshine in Azogues, Ecuador. She's a malnourished stray puppy with a rear leg that just hangs there, lifeless. The other dogs wouldn't let her near the group, so I took her aside to make sure she got some food and water. After she was fed, it broke my heart, but I had to let her back out into the street. I had just adopted a stray little dog (Suri) who miraculously survived an encounter with a speeding truck and is now traveling with me on my motorcycle, so I don't have the capacity to safely transport another dog.
A few days later I was out for a run when Sunshine saw me and started running beside me. I figured she'd stop after a couple of blocks but she kept on limping along and by mile five she was visibly tired. At this point, though, leaving her behind was no longer an option. I slowed to a walk and led her toward the vet's office, Le Peluts. My plan was to have her spayed and vaccinated, and to look for someone who would adopt her. That's when I found out that the problem with her leg was likely a result of a car hitting her. We reached out to several people, but dog adoptions are rare in Latin America and, given her condition, the odds that she'd be adopted were slim. The only option is to release her to the street again, which brings me to our ask.
I need help to pay for her transport from Ecuador to our home in Portland, Oregon, and for the surgery to repair her fractured leg. This is our opportunity to positively impact a little dog's life in unimaginable ways -- she'll have a loving home in Oregon and will lead the happy life she deserves. I plan to update everyone in the near future regarding her travels and recovery.
