Save Paradise Palms

The iconic Paradise Palms Golf Course is a community amenity under threat of closure as early as March 31st, 2019.

The Developer who opportunistically bought it cheaply now wants the Cairns Regional Council to approve a Development Application when he closes the Course next month. He made a mistake in his plans and timing and now he wants the whole local community and the tourist visitors to pay the price for him. He is looking to make super profits on what the Community has always viewed with pride as their irreplaceable asset. He wants the existing Sport and Recreation Zoning changed to accommodate 450 houses, a Retirement Village and a Water Park/Resort/Caravan Park.

There is major community concern about the loss of this outstanding amenity. There have been a number of public meetings held. A properly registered not for profit Association has been established and a Committee has been elected. It is known as Paradise Palms Resident’s Association Inc, trading as Save Paradise Palms.

A membership structure has been put in place and people are joining.  A fighting Fund has been raised already but we will need more.

The Association has retained a Town Planning company and is in the process of retaining a specialist lawyer. We are fighting this in the media and we will fight this appalling proposed change of use in Council. We could really use your donation to grow our fighting fund into a force to be reckoned with as we are up against the big end of town in this battle and we need to be able to pay for specialist advice.

Please visit www.saveparadisepalms.com.au where you will be able to see and understand the complete detail of this serious threat to an iconic destination in the Cairns region. While you are on the web site you will be able to download a Petition or join our Association.

Over 100 hectares of beautiful green space could become just more rooftops and roadways, with no supporting infrastructure and with little thought for Community amenity.

In regard to the large numbers of varied wildlife on site, the Developer's current thought bubble is to sterilise the male wallabies in the herd that lives on the course in order to ensure the herd's demise, while the barramundi in the lakes would be electrically stunned and relocated elsewhere.
