THE VET HOUSE
The “Vet House” is a leased property that houses 4 Vets who would otherwise be homeless.
The Vietnam Veterans of Indian River County, A Veteran community based 501C-3, leased the property for the Taxes & Insurance from a gentleman who was very Pro Veteran. The house was built in 1935, and was in desperate need of renovation. With a 20 Thousand Dollar budget, and doing the work ourselves, we now provide an affordable home for the homeless Veteran, who would not be able to afford housing on their limited income.
However, our benefactor passed away! The Family wants to Dramatically increase the rent, putting it out reach as a net operation. Therefore we would like to purchase the property & Deed Restrict it for homeless veteran use.
The house accommodates 4 Veterans, providing each with their own bedroom with entry lock.
The common areas of the house include; Kitchen, Living Room, Dinning Room, Bathroom, and Laundry Room. TV and Internet are included, as well as all appliances. The house sits on a little less than an acre, providing enough land for a garden.
We provide a hand up, not a hand out. These Veterans once again have a sense of belonging, and self worth. They Become an integral part of our community. Re-establishing themselves, and perhaps moving on as they become active in the work force.
